We are about to embark on a three week visit to Tassie leaving from Port Macquarie in NSW on and arriving Sunday. When planning the trip we asked what was our priorities, staying in a high level of accommodation which reduced spending money for other activities or vice versa.

We ended up choosing mid level accommodation on the basis that we would be spending minimal time in the room and the money could be put to greater use on meals and principally trips and sightseeing.

I used Trip Advisor (and AFF input) in helping to choose our accommodation based on levels of satisfaction and reviews. Of course this choice is ultimately determined by everyone's budget, wondering about others thought processes on what determines your priorities in this regard.

PS now on leave for four weeks, work email disabled

Everyones different but for me it's:

Work:
1. An airline likely not to crash
2. Price
3. A schedule that offers convenience and options
4. An airline that makes those options handy (eg - fly ahead with VA)
5. a hire car company with included km's
6. Accom (if req'd) that is clean, comfy bed and has included business facilities like printing, computer, internet which saves me carting equipment with me or paying for commercial services.
7. Niceties like lounges etc
8. Priority services (boarding, check-in, screening, fwd row seating)
9. Point accrual where available (Air, Car, Hotel)

Leisure:
1. An airline likely not to crash
2. An airline that offers family my privileges (Priority services, Lounge etc)
3. An airline with suitable point redemptions or bonus schemes (like V-money 241)
4. Price
5. Accom with high level of facilities and conveniently situated (ie pool, spa, movies, kitchen, laundry) that's v.clean and comfy for whole of group.
6 Point accrual where available (Air, Car, Hotel)
7. Included breakfasts
8. Hire car with included kms and preferably an upgrade of class
9. Niceties like lounges (accom and airport)

For me priorities in no particular order

Airline/s I can get points, status credits, priority boarding, seat selection, lounge access
Airline seat that I'm happy to sit for X amount of time and flights that depart/arrive to times that suit my schedule and plans
High standard of hotel, in good location, large room size or suite, good reputation (and points I can earn/bonuses I can take up)
Realistic price for that time of year
Flying into airports (especially cities with more than 1 airport) that are not completely out of the way (like some European hubs)

Flying ex PER. It's JASA JASA JASA.

Where I fly domestically 99% of the time I don't need a hotel at the other end.

We are not all the same.

I have absolutely no desire to throw money away on luxuries I do not need.

- Qantas as an airline is fine and travel in economy
- Motels are more than adequate with or without breakfast (I won't pay asking price for breakfast and can just as easily boil a couple of eggs myself)
- Ensure car hire credits to Virgin Atlantic and re-hire car everday to maximise points (I really miss BMI)
- I play golf so look for good value for money courses to play (avoid places such as Paradise who think $120 for a game is a fair price)

The above works very well for me as I am able to maximise the number of trips per year both domestic and international....
