Domestic to international transfer SFO - risky?

Hi all, I've just booked my partner on one UA ticket (using Velocity) from ORD to SYD via SFO. I wanted to select the flight combo which allowed three hours at SFO but this wasn't available so have ended up with a shade over one hour between flights.
Will she do passport control at ORD or SFO?
If SFO, how risky is one hour transfer time?

My only consolation is that it is booked on one ticket and was offered as such by Velocity so I'm guessing if the first leg has issues, they'll sort out the following flight.

There is no departure control from the USA.

It’s a simple and easy connection, just like transferring between two domestic flights. Get off one aircraft, walk to the other, and board.

Yes, as all in one ticket they will be protected in the event of any delays.

Will she do passport control at ORD or SFO?

They will check your passport when checking in and when gong through airport security at ORD but that's all they do. Upon arrival at SFO just check which gate (and/or terminal) and go to the gate.
