This is a strange one and I haven't been able to find an answer elsewhere.

On Sunday my kids are flying from MEL to CBR to spend some time with the grand parents. Their flight is around 8:30am. I'm dropping them off at the gate and then going over to the international terminal for QF93 to LAX which leaves around midday.

As I am flying on a Qantas flight that day will I be able to access the domestic QP with the kids before their flight? Obviously I'll then be heading straight for the international business lounge once they've departed.

Nick

Yes you will, as you are flying that day on a Qantas flight.

I know the wording is loose (have just re-read the T&Cs) but I'm not sure how this would pan-out practically. As a QC member, don't you have to produce card AND BP in order to gain access?

Has anyone experienced access being provided under these circumstances?

Regards,

BD

The OP will have a boarding pass.

The OP will have a boarding pass.

Only if they've checked in on line. Given the MEL-CBR flight is 0830 hrs and LAX flight is midday he won't be able to physically check in until after the first flight leaves.

Well to be accurate, the OP does not require a boarding pass anyway. The QP staff will be able to swipe his card and see he is booked to travel that day. That's all that's needed to gain access.

So to apply the logic further, I can access the MEL QC if I'm flying VA to SYD to transfer to a QFi flight?

And one hopes you have HLO or a place to store your check in luggage until you can drop it off at the international terminal.

My partner is driving us there so we'll leave the luggage in the car then go pick it up between flights.

I don't think so as the terms state your next onward flight must be on a Qantas/Jetstar flight number.

I suppose you've already booked the VA flight but if you were flying QF MEL/SYD they would check your bags to your final destination & issue both boarding passes.

On VA you'll have to collect your bags & SYD & make your own way around to the international terminal about 2 hours prior to departure.

I would want a mininum safety net of 3 hours between flights because you won't be protected for a mis-connection if the VA flight is delayed or cancelled.

Thanks Babe, my scenario was a hypothetical - can't see me ever booking such an itin.

The advice given in this thread is erroneous - at least for the Perth domestic lounge. Was not allowed in in 2012, when having flown in on a qantas plane (I was gold back then). and flying out later that night internationally on a qantas plane. had a stand up argument with the lounge bloke after being nice for a while. was a complete jerk about it too.

Similar thing happened to us at Perth Domestic. My travelling partner is Qantas Gold.

We flew in on Qantas for connecting Cathay Pacific flight to HKG in Business but had hours to spare. They wouldn't let us in to domestic lounge, we had to go to the International Lounge or nothing.

FWIW I had no trouble getting into CNS QP with a JQi boarding card for later that day.
