Howdy.

What's the best way to identify domestic flights leaving from the international terminal in Sydney? I am doing a Sydney-Melbourne trip and wouldn't mind checking out the Flounge for the first time.

Thanks for your tips!

I am sure someone compiled a list somewhere but it may not be up to date.

As far as I am aware there is only domestic flight from SYD international terminal to MEL and that is JQ35. Is it everyday or just Saturday? Don't know but the flight is of no use to me. I think QF81 SYD-ADL operates on some days and then there is also QF19 SYD-BNE on Thursdays.

For QF flights, you need a flight number less than QF400. As JohnK says, these are few and far between these days. And as far as I know, there are currently no QF flights between SYD and MEL that meet the criteria, hence John's suggestion of the Jetstar flight.

QF1 - QF399 are international flight numbers: so you are looking for those flights that travel between Australian cities.

QF300-QF399 are flights operated by oversea airlines that have Qantas codes on them.

JQ35 SYD-MEL TUE-SAT Depart 3:15PM my favourite ;)
JQ29 SYD-MEL TUES Depart 11:05AM
QF81 SYD-ADL TUES-THURS-SAT Depart 9;30am
QF19 SYD-BNE THUR Depart 11:10am

JQ36 MEL-SYD WED Depart 9:00am
JQ30 MEL-SYD FRI Depart 12:00am
JQ3 MEL-SYD MON Depart 2:15pm

Actually, QF400 would be a pure domestic flight from domestic terminals. QF1-QF399 are international flights. But as you point out, the higher numbers are not going to be QF operated in Australia anyway, so more accurate may be to say QF1-QF199. Or in the current schedules, QF19 and QF81 only, plus selected JQ services.

It would be the 6.00 am service MEL->SYD.
Indeed, and requiring an OMG start in the morning to make the flight!

Hmm, Mrs NM was on a 6am DJ flight this morning, resulting in the alarm clock being set for 3:30am (better reset it before I go to bed tonight) for a 4am departure from home for a 5am airport bag-drop. At least I was back home before sunrise and before any of the minis had woken.

Oh how I don't miss those COD (Crack Of Dawn) flights . The 5am from BNE during summer usually means not bothering to go to bed .

Aaahhh...fond memories of that. I took such a flight on New Year's Day of 2007. Had a mere 30 people on board. Complementary sparkling white was offered throughout the cabin.

No such complementary offerings for the many times I took that flight to make early morning meetings in SYD during summer
