As a Virgin virgin I don't know the ropes...

I'm looking to book a few domestic flexi economy class fares around christmas/new years and I'm wondering what the chances are of a sale on those fares... And the most likely time that would occur...

Currently it's $229 SYD-MEL but I recall it being lower a few times this year.

One other question, can I book Virgin Australia fares on a non-Australian website to take advantage of currency differences??

Cheers in advance

I haven't seen a sale per se but if you check the prices on select flights sometimes they are very similar to saver fares.

Qantas have closer pricing on their fares I have noticed.

Can't speak to the foriegn web site bit but it's very rare to have sales around Xmas and generally VA sales are on saver not flexi fares. You may get lucky but i'd lock them in now.

Have never seen Virgin have a sale on Flexis - just Savers.
Equally only ever Savers during Happy Hour - never Flexis or Business

During the recent Business price reduction, the Flexis didnt reduce.

I know this discussion has been had before but I still dont understand the logic of flexi fares. They're usually significantly more expensive than QF Y/E-deals and apart from perhaps slightly more flexibility to change your flight (which I never have the need to do) I don't see why you would pay more for this than on QF?

Isn't the point of the flexis to compete with Qantas?

The other point is the Flexi also has a higher Cancellation fee than the Saver...
I guess they really just want you to roll it to another flight.

Not sure of their logic. I am wondering what the percentage of Flexi's to Saver is. If what you are saying is correct the only other thing about Flexi's is you need to purchase a Flexi for a J (or Y+) upgrade.

I usually see the flight attendants delivering between 10 to 20 flexi meals on MEL-SYD flights so I guess the percentage is not overly high.

On the upgrade point, I wish virgin would follow Qantas's move and make upgrading from Saver to Business with points possible - obviously the points cost will be slightly higher of course.
