There's lots of topics regarding intl/OW connections on separate tix but I couldn't find any recent dom examples.

My client has booked me on a QF Roma - Brisbane flight that lands at 6:10pm. I need to book myself on the Brisbane to Canberra flight that departs an hour later.

Will QF check my bags all the way through to CBR and give me all boarding passes at checkin in Roma? Or will I have to re-checkin at BNE (which is cutting it fine IMO)?

QF to QF is fine. They will through-check.

I've done this regularly and never had a problem with domestic QF flights on separate bookings.

Thanks folks, very reassuring.

I ask because a few weeks ago, VA would not and did not check my bags through to CBR on CNS-BNE and BNE-CBR flights, but they would check me in. I had to cancel both tickets and then rebook a CNS-BNE-CBR ticket right there and then. The CNS-BNE was flexi and BNE-CBR was saver so I lost the second ticket and got a credit for the first. I ended up $30 out of pocket. Another nail in my VA coffin.

Isn't it true that VA won't check bags through to final destination even if all booked on same PNR? Did you get bags checked all the way through on CNS-BNE-CBR

Two tickets, no dice. But they would have given me a boarding pass in CNS for BNE-CBR. I flew CBR-BNE-GLT in June and had bags checked all the way through on the one PNR.

On the new CNS-BNE-CBR ticket that I bought in CNS, they checked bags through to CBR, but wouldn't do the same for CNS-BNE, BNE-CBR. Same flights etc. Seemed very petty at the time. I've done that route before with bags checked through without issues but can't recall the ticket/PNR circumstances. There's only 30mins between flights in BNE. If I didn't have perishables in my luggage, I might have been tempted to take the boarding pass. What happens to unclaimed bags?

OK, Ive learnt something; I thought that under no circumstances would VA check bags through on multiple sectors, but they will, as long as it's on the same PNR/ticket.
