I've managed to locate a sneaky business rewards seat on QF 649 (SYD - PER) which is scheduled to be on a 787. Every other QF649 i've seen is on a 737.

What are my chances of this staying as a 787..... I recently got dudded on an equipment change for the SYD - JNB A380 change so am wondering whether it's just a better option to find A330 routes rather than the random 787.

While I expect the usual comment from certain individuals with long memories and a grudge, I actually have a different view.

That 787 on the dom flight is being scheduled specifically for a reason - because this is not a usual route for it (ignoring dom tags for thise int flights). Therefore it's probably a positioning flight as they will want that 787 in PER for a reason.

I would say the chances are reasonable that ut might stick for this reason.

This is really interesting if the 787 is being used as a Dom flight to then support qf9, instead of as an international leg of qf9. Was wondering how they would make it work without the 787 based in Perth.

I took this was likely a swap around to cover an outbound Perth-Europe service for planned maintenance reasons then it stands to reason they would do this.

it's similar to rotation of Qantaslink jets back to the service maintenance depot in sydney where there's this one flight a day kind of thing while aiming to maintain regular PAX flights

the other option is adjustments to increase seats for some event that's on - but not a charter flight per se - where the backloaded flight is listed as available for public sale

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks all - very interesting and makes sense. It was the dom QF tag that made me a bit confused rather than say QF33.
