At end of May I've a very nice JASA planned SYD-LAX to pickup my parked DONE4

Have had the J to F upgrade requested for at least 6 months - I really want this upgrade :). Degustation, suites, etc, etc.

Looking at ExpertFlyer F availability is F9 A9 which was getting me counting chickens before they're ready to hatch.

You see there are no F seats allocated according to EF, no F awards available and I'm starting to wonder if QF didn't sell any F seats on a flight would they simply close the F cabin that day and not process any upgrades from J to F

Anyone experienced this before?

can you try the "Change Flights" trick and buy up to F for a very low price as has been seen before?

This is what I would have done!

If not I would expect they first look at Y being oversold and upgrades (points or op-up) to PE/J, before J to F.

They will plan to operate it right up til departure. Points upgrades, last minute aircraft/pax changes etc could all mean it will be needed. All looks good for you :)

Agree with last post. F travellers tend to make last minute bookings/changes, and there is little advantage booking far out of your travel dates as there isn't really such a thing as discount F ;) (technically F saver, but not much of a discount, and I don't think there's a ticketing time limit)

really? I bought F to Hong Kong for August this year, on a sale last year. $7,800 vs $12,600 -seemed like a discount to me. :). However I agree with your general premise that most F is bought close to departure date.

I should have said *sales not included ;)
