Separate booking but same days trip
So catching British airways from Denmark to London in the morning and then catching QF 2 home that evening
Will the bags be checked from Denmark to Sydney ?

Thanks

No, BA don't even through check baggage on separate bookings to themselves. (Will do on separate tickets, if the tickets are in the same PNR/booking, which doesn't sound like the case here).

BA used to check bags across tickets, as all oneworld members did, to other oneworld members, until the rules were changed a few years ago.
It is believed that BA was the primary driver behind the rule change.

In addtion to not checking bags across tickets in different PNRs, BA has taken an extra step and created an overlay to the check in screen used by BA agents that prevents the agent from doing so anyway. For other airlines that don't check through (such as QF and AA), the agent isn't allowed to, but still can (assuming the agent knows how).

What about the reverse. Will QF through check to a BA flight on a different ticket?

They will if both tickets are in the same PNR. Otherwise, they won't unless one is an award and one a revenue ticket.

They did for me when I flew BA779 from Stockholm to Heathrow then onward on QF2 to Singapore (I stopped over for a night before continuing to Sydney), but it was on the same ticket.

Same ticket connection isn't an issue, it is when the flights are on different tickets that BA won't through check.

I tried my luck yesterday, and asked the check-in staff if I could get my bag check through Australia (I was on a BA flight to LHR, and then on a separate booking, QF10). The answer I got was intriguing:

"It's forbidden"

To me, it sounds like it's technically possible, they are just not allowed to do so.

My husband actually asked in Billund to see if he could check through.
The staff member went to do it and then said "sorry it is more than 24 hours "
So no idea

Doesn't surprise me. Q & AA used to check through bags even if on separate tickets and that has stopped. Luckily I had a long-ish layover in LA or I would have been in trouble.

I'm flying VA and VS to LHR then BA to KEF on separate tickets, leaving MEL this Sat AM. I'll ask on the remote chance but I'm not holding out much hope.

BA does occasionally through check bags on BA to BA itineraries, but it's more a luck of the draw and something you shouldn't expect.

I’d be surprised, expertflyer suggests no agreement exists between VA and BA for through checking baggage.
