Does anyone know how to book different classes with Qantas?

I have been trying to work out a way of booking a SYD-HKG return flight oneway Economy and return Premium Economy. I could do different bookings for each way but the price increases dramatically. I notice that Jetstar lets you book across and so does airasia, and they are low cost airlines. Is their a flight search engine that can help?

I think it's just a limitation of the online booking form, I'm sure they could do it over the phone if you called them (and you might be able to argue they should waive the phone booking fee).

I tried them on the phone, and they informed me they could not book it across the classes, but tried to sell me the premium economy all the way.

Would not be impressed with that - we have looked at doing a similar thing - PE one way and J the other; you can do it for ASA but not online. I am disappointed.

QF now generally refuses to do mixed fares. Once, I found phone agent that said they most certainly would be able to offer a mixed class fare. She then provided me with a quote of just over $14,000 for SYD-IAD. She was quoting me a standalone one-way PE fare and a standalone one-way J fare .

And I am sure you took her up on that! That's my understanding of what is happening.

I've had Amex Centurion Travel do it for me with no discernible price penalty.
If it is possible, then is there any online way of going about this, and why can't QANTAS themselves do this ? I don't understand QANTAS non mixed fare policy or the restrictions it enforces around mixed fares.

Would be good if QF could implement a system for making mixed booking classes. It is 2013...

It definitely can be done through the GDS, so a trusted TA might be your best shot with it.

I've had no issues pricing out mixed class fares over the phone both with the platinum line and the normal reservations line. ITA allows you to price out a mixed class fare too.

madrooster - are those fares one class on the way out and another on the way back or like you sometimes see, mixed class each way (e.g. Y to Singapore then J into Europe)?

Will try at TA tomorrow, thanks.

Still a shame QANTAS call centres didn't and couldn't help.

No probs...as an aside, it wasnt all that different price wise booking Y/Y+ combo versus Y+ both direction (around $450-$500 IIRC).

I am referring to one class out, different class back, eg. SYD-LAX in Y, LAX-SYD in W.
