I recently asked Sea Temple at Port Douglas if they offered AAA or Gov't discounts (like most of the hotel families do) and was told no. The lady looked, to ascertain the best rate she could secure for me and it was what was available on line, so does anyone know if any Accor properties offer these two discounts?

This link confirms Accor do gov rates. I'm not sure how you go about it though. http://businesstravel.accorhotels.com/hotel-cms/gb/offers/fiche-offer-6.shtml#fiche6

Sea Temple at Port Douglas is a strata unit complex, meaning that the units are owned by third parties, all that Accor owns is onsite management rights.

The reality is, this means Accor is nothing more than a "real estate agent" doing "holiday letting" on behalf of some unit owners. Not all owners will be in the letting pool, infact many use services like Airbnb instead to market their units, and do so at wildly different prices to Accor (take a look on Airbnb and you will see listings if they have not already sold out). If you book with an individual owner directly via sites like Airbnb (and cut out the middleman, i.e. Accor and travel websites) then you know that you are getting that owner's unit, set up as pictured in their listing, in the location within the complex exactly as stated AND often with better amenities included (because the owner probably uses it as their own holiday home too)!

Thanks. Found the "how to" bit....
=> How to benefit from a Government & Institution offer?

■ Identify your needs per city
■ Specify your different employees categories and the corresponding business travel conditions
■ Contact your AccorHotels Sales Office to build your contract
Who could be bothered! Certainly not as simple as book then rock up with suitable ID!

Thanks for the tip about AirBNB. I can't see how them letting out privately owned units lets them out of their Accor obligations though. Hilton does the same in Surfers but they still offer all Hilton amenities as promised.

Owners using Airbnb aren't in the Accor letting pool, they have no obligation to Accor.

In Hilton at Surfers Paradise, units were sold to individuals with an agent contract in place. So owners are effectively purchasing their units tenanted. Eventually those contracts will run out, and those individual owners will be able to manage their properties however they want.

As for amenities that are owned by the body corporate, like pools etc, anyone can use these as they are owned in common by all unit owners, they are not owned by Accor (Accor may be contracted to mange them, e.g. clean the pool etc, but the body corporate pays Accor to do this).

As for add-on services that Accor may operate by itself in space within the complex - like a Restaurant, Bar or Day Spa, you can still pay to use their services (I think that Sea Temple at Port Douglas lets people staying privately even set up a tab, and pay them directly when you leave).

Again, individual owners at Sea Temple, who do not have a contract for Accor to manage their units' holiday letting business, have absolutely no obligation to Accor. (At the Hilton property, units have been sold to indivual owners with a long term letting contract in place, so it is different.)

Sorry for not being clearer. I wasn't suggesting the private rentals owe Accor anything or are obliged to offer Accor benefits. I was referring to the Accor privately owned letting pool being let by Accor. Hilton is the same. Some owners let their units out separately to Hilton. In fact some who did this have since handed them over to Hilton, as it was possibly too much work to do themselves. There's even a thread here on AFF discussing the privately let Hilton units.

It can be a bit of a mine field of different approaches. Especially with the latest tricks being deployed by developers around Docklands in Melbourne!

A significant amount of a developer's return comes from selling management rights these days.

After reading this I feel like I need to pay some sort of consulting fee. Thank you for your insight. The AFF knowledge base is never ending.

I agree! I just searched Airbnb and found the Sea Temple swim up apartment for $250/night whereas Accor (same dates) want $652/night. I doubt Accor benefits can make up the difference!

I've been going to both the Sea Temples in Port Douglas and Palm Cove since they opened... Let met just sit here in jealousy of your trip... *Have Fun* :)

So they're worth the rate IYHO? They look nice and although I normally stay at the Sheraton when in Port Douglas, the old girl is showing her age. I also have a friend staying at Palm Cove and Lisa and I booked into Hilton for the dates, but it'd be far more convenient if we stayed at Palm Cove. Trouble is, I've got the Premier Suite booked for 3 nights on triple points at the Hilton! Who says status benefits doesn't sway bookings!

In my opinion, the service and facilities at both have really disintegrated since Pullman took over.. Back when they were independently run they were amazing. However the rooms and facilities are still outstanding and you can't get better rooms for space.
The swim outs are fantastic and the spa suites are good too.
I do prefer staying in Palm Cove over Cairns, however having Hilton status in Cairns certainly sways it...

You know, that was one of my niggling doubts. If memory serves me correctly, Soul in Surfers Paradise was also a Sea Temple, yet they don't seem to have joined Pullman. Thanks for sharing that observation.

EDIT....I just did a search and it looks like Soul is now a Peppers. I've only stayed once at a Peppers and thoroughly enjoyed it.......it was Peppers at Salt!
