Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would have thought we could be old fashioned and say thank you to people who have helped us.

Excuse my ignorance, but can anyone please explain why new members (who have not yet posted) are given a rating such as "is on a distinguished road".

Like with the majority of things, there are many + and - aspects of this new feature. It's always good to try new things, and if over time the new feature is not well received, we'll certainly hear about it!

Thanks

You should only have a rating if you have had at least 1 post.

Just like now your rating was a gray brick "Wunala Dreaming is off the scale" which means that no one has rated any of your posts.

I then clicked on the grayed out scales at the bottom of your post which took me to another screen to evaluate your reputation with either an "I approve" or "I disapprove" with possibly a comment as well and then clicked on add to reputation.

Your reputation is now a green brick "Wunala Dreaming is an unknown quantity at this point".

With every reputation you can either go forward or backward depending on the approval you receive. The OP explains a whole lot more but with the amount of people voting against it I cannot see it remaining for very long.

You can read more about this facility at http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/reputation.

I've noticed that new users that join are instantly given some kind of +ve feedback rating:

" is on a distinguished road"

This explains why a user with 1 post only could have a rating perceived higher than a long term poster who has had no +ve feedback.

I'm still on the fence with this one. Getting mightily crowded though up here :D

I'm not sure about which end of the gray scale I was "off" up until this post.

I've resigned to staying grey as I do not have any enemies - only my friends hate me.

The poll is now 7 for and 31 against. Very decisive. You guys better get off the fence soon or it may come crashing down. :p

You're green now.

You're green now.
So I've gone from "off the scale" to "unknown quantity" now.

Which would you prefer?

I believe my quantity is well published by the number of posts - don't the grown-ups who started this girly game mean "quality"?

If you bribe a few more members you may end up "on a distinguished road" or even better still "will become famous soon enough". ;)

I'd prefer if you'd just send me money to reflect my popularity.:D
Nah. If I send you money you will only spend it whereas if you just try to improve your reputation it stays with you forever. Think of all the good you can be doing by having a better reputation. :p

I think if this feature is kept (and I stress, *if*), then all current users with 1 post or more should be given:

"Is on a distinguished Road"

And all new users, given:

"Is an unknown quantity at this point".

Personally, I think the "titles" are fairly lame, and probably the result of some geeks high on caffeine one night trying to think of funny things to call various status levels. (BTW, I do work in IT, so I know the difference between a geek, a nerd and a general IT worker). I can't think of better titles though, so maybe I need more caffeine :D

I think you and I have great titles.

"will become famous soon enough"

Johnk, You obviously know me well as a fool and his money will soon be partying!!

Judgement day. Only 9 hours to go!

The vote so far is 7 for keeping the "user reputation" feature and 33 against.

What will admin decide?

8 to 33 - Pretty decisive! The User Reputation feature has been removed. Thanks to all those who participated in this discussion.

Wise choice. IMHO.

A disaster area.

I am an elected admin/board member type person on www.flyertalk.com ... which has 100,000+ members.

They introduced it there and it nearly bought down the board. Nastiness, snakiness, plain forging and abusing the system all over the place.

From very Senior members and moderators down to newbies. Very quickly abandoned.

Not worth the risk.
