Do you leave a tip for hotel housekeeping?

On principle will never tip when it is overtly requested.

I wish I could do that! I once tried to avoid tipping a cashier in NYC after being overtly requested. I then got yelled at.

I leave a tip in all hotels except in Australia.

Sometimes I get a thank you card, other times nothing. I don't want anything in return, except a clean room and it's going to be cleaned the same regardless of tip, and the same person won't be cleaning it every day anyway.

A few hotels in the Dolomites recently, I left tips on the pillow and they didn't take it. So I then left a note, and they still didn't take it.

We got caught up in the UK ATC meltdown the other day and by the time the email from BA advising of our rebooking and that they HADN’T booked accommodation (for two nights!) we scrambled to find something - ended up paying ~A$1500(!) for the first night pre-paid thru Booking.com.

The hotel (very nice one in Fitzrovia) had the audacity to charge a £39 “room servicing fee” on my CC that had been provided. WT actual…!

I phoned them to complain and they reversed it immediately…

Our niece who has retired works part time in retail as she gets bored living by herself . She gets $27 an hour which is just over $US 19. She does wonder how the other staff can afford to live in Sydney.
