Mark Rushton walked from store to store in the northern town of Santander demanding to "buy everything", the Daily Mail reports.

He cleaned out one delicatessen's shelves, buying more than 30 bags of food and drank cognac from the bottle while staff packed up the groceries, Spanish newspaper Diario Montanes reported.

He arranged for some of his purchases to be taken back to his hotel where he was forced to hire another room for all his purchases.

Rushton then went back to the delicatessen, picked out a few more things until the shelves were completely empty, and was then asked to pay $253,000.
