Do the contents of the Business class Toiletry bags need to be in transparent bags for security?

That’s why I’ve been careful to never say ‘never’! Although just last month we transited LHR T2 coming off SQ and connecting to SK. 4 x amenity kits in hand luggage, not in LAG bag, and not a word said!

Amazing how it can vary, at the same airport, given the likelihood they’re all the same staff?

Ironic they missed out on a water bottle around 1/4 or 1/5 full which I forgot to check in. Well yes… 110ml toothpaste is clearly over the limits. But it’s rare for very small liquids to be confiscated or made to be rearranged. I travel with eye drops, nasal spray and small hand sanitiser… plus amenity kits! Those don’t ever seem to pose concern.

Well they should have at least let me squeeze 1/4 of it out since I brought 4. How does one not survive without "normal" colgate toothpaste that doesn't cost $10 each that does not have blue or green gel in it

Pre-pandemic I got swapped every second time in domestic security wherever I happened to be. Now it feels strange when it's only 1/10. International only a small fraction of times.
I hope there's a method to the seeming randomness so that they also do pick up things that shouldn't travel through the security.

My son in law had to go somewhere remote in QLD to inspect and assess some damaged equipment at a mine site. Not sure which airport but on the way back jumped off a small charter flight and tried to transit through security for a flight back to CNS and got pulled aside and nearly miised flight. He got the third degree as to why he had TNT residue on his shoes and trousers. From the intensity of the interaction for a while.he thought he was going to be handcuffed and taken away.

Toothpaste is often in a 110g tube and google says it (colgate) has an SG of 1.33 so it is less than 100ml cut off?

Interestingly it can and IME does pass through some times. . A couple of time I've carried a scrunched up tube of 160g of toothpaste through security at SIN, without thinking about it (and some other ports as well) and been forced to throw it out during the trip, as it does eventually get picked up by someone, somewhere.

Same its either been a hit or miss. Even though it goes through the "same machines"

I once went to the US on a tour and on a domestic flight was selected for TSA express. Then they detected nitrogen and had to do a body search. So much for TSA express To this day I still do not know how the nitrogen got on me, only possible reason is that probably there was fertiliser on the seat of the bus and I had sat on it?

At one point I passed through Morambah (MOV) every now and then and often their security pinged someone off the line for a closer check. I also got pulled off the line because of traces of explosives in shoes and pants.
At the same time, it looked like the security staff was also well versed to not raise alarms for every single molecule they came across but look at the whole and check only the worse cases. Overall, it was a very smooth operation.

To contribute a data point, I have transited through DXB dozens and dozens of times and have never had any issues with my EK amenity kits going through security screening.

At SIN yesterday on a flight back to Australia. I had a couple of jars of mustard in my carry on bag. My toiletries left in my bag too as well as a large metal tube mustard. The x-ray folks picked up on the jars and asked me if I had jars of maybe honey. I explained what it was they inspected one. The guy looked at it (it was actually German mustard brought by a colleague for me, so nothing in English on the jar). He turns it upside down and around before giving it back to me. The lady said next time I should put that in my check luggage. Makes no sense. Either it's allowed or not. So clearly not an issue.

Also odd that they didn't pick up on the big metal tube of mustard. If that was toothpaste (or liquid explosives?!) I would have got it on the flight without question.

At least they have the balls to give it back to you. Meanwhile they don't have the balls confiscated 4 rolls of $10 colgate special toothpaste that I bought because the label said it was 110g. Consider yourself winning the lottery. Or two lotteries. One with the jar. two with the mustard. Alternatively I was extra unlucky because they can can't endure my stinkin' breath from not brushing my teeth.

Also glad to know that your jars of mustard are more precious than my Colgate special formula toothpaste. I would have guessed that it was spicy sauce who in their right mind would of guessed it was honey? Considering it looks exactly like laksa (assuming the officers have never eaten laksa or seen laksa jars before?)
