Do oneworld partners pay when you use a partner lounge?

I've heard for myself in the SYD international J lounge this explained by a Lounge host to another passanger regarding the daily BA flight out of SYD, that BA get's charged for their passangers using the QF lounge.

All makes perfect sense if you ask me.

On another note, on a recent AKL > SYD flight on JQ , I had my FF number recorded in The QF AKL lounge, which makes me think that JQ foot the bill for my lounge access on that particular occasion.

This was also the case flying JQ out of HNL too, 18 months ago in the small QF lounge in HNL.

Yet domestically flying JQ no details recorded in the domestic QF lounges .

There you go, maybe they have just done it more discretely in the past. Of course my situation was a bit different to those described above.

I was on a paid QF ticket (well actually one of those 10 point bonus vouchers) flying on a QF flight on QF metal. I was just using my Cathay privileges to get into the lounge.

It didn't bother me in the slightest I just thought it a bit unusual.

For future reference, if you wish to use your MP privileges when flying with OW partners, you really should be quoting your MP number in the booking. All OW lounges have the right to refuse entry if you have a low status membership number attached to a booking even if you have a higher status with another partner. That being said, why would you bother joining another program if you have a high status with one already?

May I ask where you got that information? I haven't seen that written on the OW or QF website?

the answer to your question is very simple. I have MP Gold status by virtue of a credit card. I have never been on a Cathay plane. On the other hand I have a balance of 160k QF points having just spent 140k. 90% of those points earned from non flying methods.

That being said, often heavily discounted Qantas fares get no or very few points in other programs, whereas you are guaranteed 1000 points no matter what fare you have with QF. (Except the govt ones when I am travelling for work).

One reason would be to earn status and points on the second airline's program. If, for instance, you have reached WP on QFF and don't want to go to P1, then future SCs on QF are 'wasted' so you might as well earn on another program, IF its going to be worthwhile at the end of the year. There's a member here who is (or was) 'double Emerald' - on Qantas and American.
