DL dom (revenue) to LAX connecting to VA int (award) question

I did some searching and I couldn't find an answer on these forums, so apologies if this has been covered previously.

I have J award flights into JFK booked and sorted (BNE>HKG>JFK) so that's all sorted, no issues.

Getting home is the problem.
I plan to purchase a few revenue domestic flights (rack up the SCs on DL) followed up by J award flights LAX > BNE.
The plan is to fly YYZ>LAX on DL then connect to VA.

According to DLs baggage policy, they will check my bags all the way through to BNE even on separate tickets (https://pro.delta.com/content/agenc...-confirms-through-check-baggage-policy--.html)
BUT, I can't find anywhere that tells me if I can check in for and receive BPs for both flights from YYZ?
I really want to stay air-side at LAX and not deal with the hassle of passing through security again.

Does anyone foresee any problems with this scenario? If the YYZ>LAX flight gets delayed/cancelled I'm probably done for with the connecting VA flight yes?
The travel will be over the xmas/new year period, so weather could be an issue...

Any help/advice appreciated.

All DL & VA flights at LAX are scheduled to be operating from T2 &T3 from around May¹.

I have always checked in at VA's T3 counters - never wanting to confuse the issue with DL's agents elswhere (no checked luggage and having to reclear security T5 to T3/TBIT anyway made this reasonable).

How much time are you planning to allow for transit - I look to 5 hours minimum.

¹(that remains to be seen, but by Christmas quite liekly).

Yeah I was thinking 6+ hrs.
But if I'm too early I won't be able to check in right? Then we'll have to wait around and won't be able to access the lounge until 3hrs before departure?

There is also the possibly of flying AC to LAX if the FF tie up is in place early enough.

Maybe even YYZ>YVR>BNE in AC if the tie up happens really early this year and award flights become available... Slim chance I'm thinking.

VA check in currently opens at 3:30pm ... I do not k ow if this will change.

I have checked luggage through from DL to VA Without issue several times. They were unable to print my noarding passes though so had to actually checkin at LAX But my bags were checked through. They made it to BNE each time so it works. Last time was July 16 LAS-LAX-BNE on totally different tickets

Same for me, different DL & VA tix. Arrived LAX 1700, T3 check-in (always struggle to find it mind you), show the agent the bag sticker so they can track/add it and then 10 pm departure. Nice few hours in the *A lounge. Going to miss that lounge, don't hold high hopes for DL lounges. If similar to JFKs - the space is nice enough but I can't stand all this "pay for better food and drink" rubbish.
