Yeah, no bonus on the NZ flight number.

Here's my most recent flight (NZ flight number on a Works fare):

But do you get bonus with DJ number but NZ metal?

Yep. This was a DJ booked, NZ flight (NZ101).

Bump!
Quick post from the Koru Club at SYD. First time on NZ as DJ Plat, pretty impressed so far. Seamless check-in at the J counters, priority tags, express passes for Immigration / Security and a warm welcome for the whole family at the Lounge. Very, spacious, very reasonable selection of food and drinks.
So far I'm one very happy Velocity camper :)

I had a similar experience in MEL, priority tags, express pass and was told I can use the priority boarding lane.

Excellent news :)
I should also follow up by saying that the Plat recognition continued onboard. Had pre-selected row 3 on A320, greeting from CSM, newspapers and J headphones offered. Given express passes for all for New Zealand immigration.
I was pretty impressed by the in-flight service on NZ.
Here's hoping the return flight is just as good

I was impressed with the WLG boarding pass reader recognizing your status at the lounge entry....no problems

Okay I can't say that I got any of that, I was first row of economy on a 777 and it looked like they op-up'ed all of their elites to Premium, I didn't get anything special from the crew. In fact we didn't even have a proper meal service!

I thought they were really cool too! I said to the lady I doubt mine'll scan because it's DJ not NZ, and she explained to me it works for all their alliance partners and you can read a set or special text on BPs to manually determine it too.

Nice to know that they are Qantas staff too!

Yes in Melbourne I made a joke to the QF staff that they aren't use to seeing Velocity cards, I got a cold stare back.

FYI I much preferred the treatment on the way back flying DJ to SYD (as part of AKL-SYD-LAX-SFO), the checkin agent said to me "Woah, it looks like you've got a long journey ahead to SFO, so I've blocked off your entire row so you can have a bit of a snooze if you wish".

Fell asleep right away on the plane once lying down, when I woke up I noticed a bottle of water placed into the seat back pocket. Nice thinking!

This week I've qualified for DJ Gold however I have future flights on Air NZ that were booked back when I had bronze status. Will Air NZ still be able to work out that I have Gold status? I doubt I will get my Gold membership card before my flights next week. Reason I ask is yesterday I had a flight PER-SYD on DJ (which was also booked while I was bronze) and on my boarding pass it said I was bronze even though Gold has already updated on my online velocity account.

They should be able to see your status, even without a card in hand. The DJ system has some funny quirks, but they could have forced Gold onto your boarding pass, the important thing is that you know what status you are ;)



My experience is that no, your new status won't be "pushed" into the NZ reservation system. Ring up NZ and ask them to remove and then re-apply your Velocity number. That will force the NZ system to "ask" Velocity for your status. (This is what I did when I quickly moved from Red to Gold).

You can tell if it's been done correctly because the range of seats you can choose from increases dramatically.

This is exactly what needs to be done, the staff at the airport can also remove, then re-add your velocity number.

Wouldn't be such a crazy idea to carry a printout showing your new status.

Hi Fruitcake, thanks for the info. I've rung up Air NZ and asked them to remove and re enter my velocity number like you said. They managed to do that however they said their system can't see what my status level is.

Also I can't do seat selection because I bought the seat and bag fare which I believe doesn't include advanced seal selection.

Any other suggestions to make sure I get my gold privileges?

We also had great platinum recognition on our return flights ZQN-SYD. Initially had to have a bit of a discussion with the staff at ZQN check-in directing us to the self serve kiosks for bag drop. Eventually I said "We are Koru Club" and were then directed to the premium check-in. There is a temporary lounge at ZQN just now, its basically a tent outside the airport building but warm enough inside. On board we had personal greeting, NC headphones, newspapers etc. Bags were first off the carousel at SYD.
Overall a terrific experience for us of how the NZ tie-in is working. The points and SC also processed quickly to Velocity and pleased to report that I have now re-qual Plat :D

If you have booked on NZ then seat selection is not available even with DJ status. (It will be once sabre is rolled out later this year) The Koru Club manager in MEL told me that she goes through and manually selects (good) seating for DJ status pax travelling on the NZ flights.

We were able to select premium row 3 seats (A320) at time of booking a Works fare on the NZ website.

It may be of interest, I was Koru club travelling on Virgin Australia, with my family. My dad is Air NZ Gold. I was on a seperate booking to them as I had to travel back earlier. They were pre allocated row 5, whilst I didn't get anything. upon checkin, the service manager (or whatever her title) added me to row 5 as I was travelling with him, and apologised she hadn't picked up that we had the same last names, but it was an interesting insight.
