For heavens sake. Aren't we talking about a few chocolates given to some kids? Full marks for to the DJ staff for doing so!

As for giving away freebies, I've been offered newspapers whilst traveling on a saver. Is that too devaluing the product? I've been given row 3 with extra leg room on a saver. Is that too devaluing the product? We're regularly now offered ife (when it's available) on a saver. Is that devaluing the product?

We've also heard reports of crew taking chocolates and likes off the plane. I'd prefer they give them to kids (let's face it, it also helps keep them amused and QUIET during the flight) rather than take them home to their mates. Also, didn't airlines used to give away lollies to suck, to the pax who were experiencing blocked and painful ears? Really, these are conveniences which really show an airlines forward thinking and planing. It's an overhead I'm sure the accountants can manage......just like those extra newspapers aboard.

I think it's more that that DJ have so many different inclusions and it isn't cohesive.

On your point the kids were on a saver fare which doesn't entitle them to anything complimentary, so how would other people feel had they known that? They'd be wondering where their chocolates are.
 
I've witnessed some get snacks on the house. The two people sitting next to me on a flight from Perth got something to munch on with their coffees (with compliments), while I just got the coffee. Not too sure of how that worked, but there you go.

When I was moved to row 3 (I was amazed as Im only silver) I was offered 'anything off the menu? - no charge!', however I think the FA was flirting with me as this was not offered to anyone else in row 3 ;)

I don't really care about the he got/she got in economy as long as the service is generally consistent and being nice to kids and old people is a tick in my book. My bigger concern relates to the inadequacy of what's happening up in J and they need to fix it quicksmart. Smiles only go so far I'm afraid.

On a DJ flight BNE to AKL last week we were on Flexi and so got meals, drinks, and a video set. A woman with her daughter across the isle were on saver and got nothing. The woman was indignant, the child sad, so the guy in their window seat let her have his video set.
The woman kept on about how unfare it all was. I guess someone paid for her tickets, and she didn't realize we all paid $120 more than she did.
The meal was simple but nice.

She musn't fly VA very often if she doesnt know that Flexis get a meal.

I flew on a Flexi within the first few weeks of them having introduced it (it was a prize). I felt a bit silly and guilty when I was handed a meal as there were very, very other flexis on the flight and I actually heard someone say 'why the hell does he get a free meal?'
