DJ 737 taxi'ing when axle shears off !

None taken :D

And that is true - we are a bit more critical of the QF-attacking stories than the others.

At times, it is not that QF are at fault prima facie that we have a problem with but rather the incident has been misrepresented by the media (e.g. the wrong aircraft type, the wrong plane, the wrong conditions, extent of the matter exaggerated, etc.). Or silly things like where it is not QF's (or sub in any airline here for another) fault yet it is painted like it is (e.g. the CAT incident involving QF72).

With sensationalist headlines on this one, you have to question whether the full story is being told here, too.

Fair comments mate, and like I say I view any headline that has "Qantas" and "Incident" or similar words in the same sentence with a large dose of salt these days .:!:

Re: virgin blue safety fears

You're right.

I'm wondering which report is correct though? Did the engineers spot this or did the pilots on the tarmac?
Perhaps the pilot had some indication something was not right when it took take-off power to taxi the aircraft and the aircraft had a slight nose-down attitude

ok, yes, I know the 737 has dual nose wheels and only one fell off.

I certainly wasn't referring to you anat0l ,in fact I don't have any particular members in mind, just it does sometimes seem that any reporting of a
story even remotely critical of QF etc is viewed with suspicion (and I'm guilty of that myself) but anything about DJ,Tiger etc is classed as 100% accurate.

No offense meant.:)

The problem is that nonews seems to have an interest in taking down QF that I almost wonder if they have brought DJ shares and are just not disclosing them.

When they start reporting on events that have happened to QF and they can't even get a basic detail just as the type of plane correct (especially when the type changes from story to story on the same website), you have to start wondering what other things they failed to research.

Perhaps they still harbour grudges from back in the days when they owned 50% of Ansett.

Poor b******s. What a waste of talent (i.e. at least in QLD, you need an OP of 1-3 (approx equivalent to a UAI or ENTER score of 97-99) to get into Journalism, yet you only need an OP of 8 (approx equivalent of a UAI or ENTER score of 92) to get into Engineering. Yep, what a joke.)

OP requirements for course entry have NOTHING to do with talent - they are representative of the competition for places in the courses. Evidently more people want to be journos than aviation engineers. But then, there's less positions for journos and tonnes for engineers.

Incidentally, regarding QF beatups in the press; I have iron authority tHat a lot of this has been instigated by the engineering workers union during recent EBA negotiations.

Basically, QF decided to not give in to what it saw as unreasonable demands so the EWU decided to provide a soundbite and "background" to every QF incident, proving how much damage they could do. In the end QF paid up.

There are some questions that Virgin Blue need to answer about this.
I'm advised that the aircraft in question was VH-VBA and that the nose gear was inspected and overhauled approximately 6 weeks ago,now if that is true ,and given that you would think that corrosion severe enough to cause this sort of failure would probably not happen in such a time frame I would be interested to know why it wasn't picked up then as I would expect there to be signs of the corrosion then?
Having said that it is my opinion that all major Australian commercial airlines take their safety obligations very seriously and I much rather be a passenger on an aircraft operated by an Australian carrier than I would be on planes from some other countries.

If you ever wanted proof that those guys are idiots here it is...
Making the public lose confidence in your employer is not the way to ensure secure employment, as you no longer have a job if the company folds...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-union, but seriously, there are better ways than taking your employer down.
