Disgusting State of Perth Virgin Lounge

It took 10years to go from blue to Australia.... So on that basis the lounge environment may take that long too..... Mind you it is cheaper than Qantas?????

Hi all...I have been doing quite a bit of business in Perth over the last few months and my business partner and I have been using the Perth Virgin Lounge. I have to say I am amazed at what a dump it has turned into.

Food was rubbish (basic and very messy), carpets messy, the furniture was old and dirty (some with DNA or food remnants), and I made the mistake of grabbing a shower prior to getting on the red eye - my god the shower curtain looked like it had 50 shades of bacteria growing slowly up to the middle.

It really was an embarrassment, especially after a long day of meetings in Perth and trying to sit down and have a quiet business discussion with my partner. It sounded like a Friday night at a dodgy pub -"effing" this and "effing" that - with a few C words dropped in for good measure by those in hi-viz seated around us.

I'm no prude, but sitting there last night, I couldn't help thinking Virgin really doesn't care about high value customers such as myself (self employed, exclusively travel Virgin since Jan 2007, Platinum, pay for all my own flights and that of my colleagues etc) when it comes to doing business in Perth.

So 2 questions -
1. Am I being too touchy, or do others feel the same way?
2. Should Virgin introduce Dress Codes and Behaviour Codes at "Business Lounges"?

Comments?

I am sitting in the lounge now and no you are not being too touchy. Filthy language in public. I am not a prude but there is a limit to how you should conduct yourself in public.

Not impressed at all.

From what I've heard, a new 'flagship' lounge will be opening in PER when the new VA terminal opens, agree that its disgusting in the current state....

Almost like a time warp going from that mess to a 330.

Couldn't agree more. I was in the PER lounge a few months ago for a morning flight to MEL. The place was full of FIFOs and the language and the subject matter of their conversations was just absolute filth - all carried on at the top of their voices of course, and the women were just as bad as (if not worse than) the men. I'm not a prude by any means either, but I was absolutely disgusted.

In early December last year in the Melbourne Lounge I actually witnessed similar behaviour, and to the credit of the manager on duty I saw the culprit asked to leave, much to the protest of the member who had guested them in. The detail was quite loudly protested by the pair. The manager also offered the member the option of joining his friend and he quickly resumed a quiet stance.
Perhaps the Perth team need some reinforcements. Though my experience is that the bar staff are quite happy to tell you how much you have had to drink etc....I agree that the Perth lounge is a disgrace.

The PER Lounge has always been disgusting. First time I was there was on inaugural A330 run, and every time since it has been awful. From the poor selection of food to the drink naz_ on the bar. Awful. FWIW though, I compare it as an equal to Delta lounges in the US (Only experienced LAX and SEA). Other lounges in OZ are awesome compared to these lounges.

Do we know when the new perth lounge will open?
The new lounge is in the new terminal...so presumably both will open at the same time.

Perth Airport seems to be having continual problems delivering it to Virgin though - https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/19753748/virgin-left-waiting-for-terminal/ originally should have opened this time last year, then October '14, then March '15, then middle of '15, now....? I doubt that Virgin wants to put a date on it any more.

The Australian newspaper (a pay-site, so I will not included a link, use a search engine to find the article if inclined) quotes the Virgin CEO last year (2014)
“I have to say I’m disappointed at the way the project continuously gets delayed,’’ Mr Borghetti said. “Of course I know it’s a very complex project — all airport projects are complex projects.“But it’s not the first airport project that’s ever been put together and there far more complex ones than this one.’’

Asked what level of confidence he had in the terminal being completed by next June, he said: “Well if you look at history not much. But I am hoping that this time it will eventuate.’’

Thx for that. Everything I read suggested between may-july but I guess given the lack of announcements then its not happening

It could happen, I wouldn't lose hope... but I doubt (given the experience Virgin seems to have had so far with the airport) that they will make an official announcement again, until they actually have the keys to the terminal in their hands.

Have to agree with most of the discussions here. I visited the Perth lounge for the first time yesterday after having visited Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane many times in the past. The Perth lounge did not feel anything near the standard of quality of the East coast lounges. There were a couple of FIFOs there, didn't notice any foul language but they had put seats together and had their feet and shoes up on seats - acting like children. Unfortunately it would seem the staff in the lounge will need to remind them how to behave in public. Have to also agree that the bathroom and very visible shower was disgusting - how much does a new shower curtain cost seriously?? Food was very average and also found a bonus strand of hair in my food. As someone who loves everything Virgin does, the Perth lounge was a total let down.
