Armin (Tamzarian) [any Simpsons fans out there? The last one was Joey-Jo-Jo]

And Princess Muffin. That one was named by the girlfriend...

The only go outside on their leads but climbing is obviously completely instinctive as they take to trees really easily.

Wow 8 pages (at 20 posts a page) of cat talk before I stumble into this creepy cat people world!

Despite my protestations we joined the land of the moggy owners (or is it the other way around?) earlier this year.

Now we know who runs the house. The last week (in Sydney) has been awful because she hasn't wanted to go outside and burn off all that cat adrenaline. Making up for this this week though. I've never seen anything run up a tree so fast!

Naaw, thats sad, cute, funny, interesting and great all at the same time.
How did they come to needing fostering? Were they dumped, does anyone know?

I don't actually recall their story - I work at an animal shelter so we've fostered a LOT of kittens! They were our last though, after a very tough year on the staff because there were so many neo-natal kittens to bottle feed the foster care network was increased and a policy brought in that staff were not to foster if a non-staff volunteer could be found. It is an exhausting job, not least because there is a fairly high rate of loss so it is emotionally tough too. Sometimes some animal welfare groups use a photo of Normie as a kitten being bottle fed on Facebook to promote caring for neo-nates and I always enjoy commenting to say he's a big fat gangster now!

Despite my dislike of cats I do have a personal cat story. When we lived in the Hunter Valley a neighbours cat decided to have her kittens behind our garage. The first we knew was seeing her take her kittens one by one back to their rightful home.A couple of days later we heard some weak cat sounds.Investigated and there was the runt of the litter still alive. Our pre-schooler son said we have to do something so mrsdrron despite her dislike of cats fed it milk via an eye dropper. It survived.
It of course had no mother figure so it was adopted by the Labrador from next door.It grew up believing it was a dog.We would often take the Labrador for a walk and the cat would follow. It had every dog mannerism including coughing it's leg to empty her bladder. If it got tired on a walk it would just hop up on the Labradors back. Unfortunately it adopted too many dog habits and was killed chasing a car.

drron, I "liked" your post, not because of the poor thing's death but because it is fascinating to see nature v nurture. I'm sure our dog thinks she is a cat, because she lives in a house full of them. She is a not-so-dainty pitbull but she leaps up on the back of the lounge and tippy toes along it like a cat (and usually falls off).

Here's a bigger photo of my favourite cat, Poppy. She lives in our bedroom, by her own choice, and doesn't like other cats in there. She has her own toilet, feed bowl, food supply and water bowl in our ensuite bathroom (lucky it's a big one). She is very attached to me and shows how much she's missed me when I've been away for a few days. I am a bit worried about her because we are going away for a month later in the year. She is eight years old and also came from RSPCA - she was the first kitten my husband brought home after he started working there. It was only for a weekend but we bonded so she stayed :) Although she is fairly elderly she has recently taken to playing with a hair elastic I left out in the bedroom, in a most kitten-like manner. She is an utter devil and her favourite game is "naughty kitten" with my husband. He scritches around on the bed with his hand and she attacks it and goes feral. He is covered in scratches but he is inviting it so I have no sympathy!

Re: The totally off-topic thread

And a Mundial knife at that. If it were mine I would be pretty cut up about it.

Given it's happened to 3 people though, sounds like a flaw :D

If I were to take a stab at the reason, it would more towards the design spec more than an actual flaw. I guess they didn't have enough ductility for lateral forces at the tip. Not that you should be subjecting the knife to such forces. If it didn't break it would have likely bent anyway. It's no combat knife.

The heater - the cat was free
Well, you do get what you pay for :) :)

Anyhoo: meet Alpha Cat. After one day she's commandeered the dog's bed:

Then they were fighting like cats and dogs:

Agree; they aren't designed to have that much weight applied directly to the tip. Still haven't replaced it; spent ages looking but couldn't convince anyone in the store to serve me :-|

I have a Wusthof 20cm chef's knife. Bought it on special (no way would I pay full price) from a specialty knife shop and it is the best knife I have ever owned. FWIW.

I don't see the point in all this :D

Thanks :D But because its a block set I'm going to replace it with a matching knife (plus they are quite a bit cheaper).

Must find more photos of Bella doing odd things; I've got plenty of them!

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Why does my cat lick my head in the morning? It is a funny way to wake up realising that she is on my pillow. Does she think I'm about to die and she needs to have me ready for eating? :) Guess I had better keep the better food coming. Raw chicken necks are going down well at the moment.

Normie was just sitting on husband's lap, paws around husband's neck, licking and biting his neck. Weird.

On the knife talk, we have a very expensive Japanese knife (MAC I think) and it has lost its tip, even though we treat it like it's a baby. Just a few mm. I guess it's an inherent weakness.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Indoor cat she is.

My partner just ran something out to me in the car - carrying cat because we had been out all day and he wanted to give her some attention.
She was so terrified and unhappy about being outside that she held on to him for dear life (for fear of being put down I think) and he now has pin holes from her claws, some are bleeding. Only a couple of small scratches... it looks like she was really just trying to stay put.

Poor darling is now off emotional eating (the cat that is).

My cat does that as well, she loves sitting in the window and even at the screen door but hates going outside and has the same reaction.

One thing I really like is that when I open the travelling cage she will walk inside without argument. Very handy when going to the cattery or vet.
