Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

I can no longer take Petal to the vet since she caused them to suit up in the special clothing used for treating animals with rabies. They suggested* I take her elsewhere.

So we have the home vet visit every year for her vaccination and a check up.

It was time for the annual visit and vet attended. Petal met her at the door for pats and tummy tickles and then something went off in brain and she ran away and hid underneath my bed.

I asked the vet to get the needle ready and told her I could get Petal to return. I played a YouTube video of kittens crying and she came running. Picked her up and the vet quickly administered the injection. The meowing and crying enabled a quick look at her teeth and then I let her go. All fine.

She then ran away and sulked for several hours. A little sensitivity the next day and now it's all over until the 19th when she has her monthly Revolution treatment.

* More like 'please don't ever return here for the well being of the staff'.

"From Bill Smith, Helsby, Cheshire, UK

I have a solution to Schrödinger's cat-in-a-box paradox, based on the following verifiable observations. When I wish to use my armchair, I find our cat asleep on it. When I wish to use my study, the cat is asleep on my chair. When I go to bed, the cat is sleeping on my bed.

Therefore the answer to Schrödinger's paradox is surely that the cat is not dead, but merely sleeping. Furthermore, it is not even in the box, it's where it's not supposed to be.

I hope that settles the matter."

This cat looks very similar to my Petal.

I had the hardest discussion with my Vet yesterday - the when is it time one :(

Basically there is no wrong time for him now. It’s a question of how he’s going and how I am going with him. As of yesterday, he has way more ticks in the positive column than the negative one and he’s happy and eating.

He continues on his insulin but we’ve decided nothing else. That’s my line. I’m not going to keep him going with drugs like one for dementia etc

God they break your heart :(

God they break your heart..

I disagree… they give us unmeasurable pleasure and ask relatively little in return.
As a long lived species, we should rejoice that we can offer our loved friends a peaceful and pain free release.
I have had to say goodbye to many many wonderful friends over the years, but it has to be…….

Oh I agree. What they give us can’t be measured and makes it all worthwhile. But nonetheless, letting them go is beyond hard.

We have an unusual Ragdoll cat called Mishka (Mishy for short)..
She is gentle and loving, and a real housecat most of the time.

But at other times she as quite a hunter of mice. Several times she has attacked foxes in the back yard - I once observed her chasing a whimpering scared fox all around our big backyard. Fortunately, she seems totally uninterested in birds, else it would be a daily massacre around here.

Other Ragdoll owners express amazement and some even skepticism at our cat's hunting instinct.

I have attached photos of her at rest and in action.

Sometimes they can tell us it’s time when you look in their eyes. But so hard. It was easier with our old dog. The vet asked us if he still wagged his tail. Really feel for you. :(

Thanks. When he comes for cuddles at night up on my shoulder/ chest (lying almost upright!!) I tell him it’s ok to go off to sleep when he’s ready.

And of course she has to bring her catch in to show you and for you to tell her that she’s a very clever girl. :p
Daughter’s cat is a bit of a mouser but she brings them in alive and then lets them go in the house.

I understand where you are coming from @Milboo. I was sitting on the lounge the other day watching the F1 and thinking of all those races I watched with Munn the Cat sitting on my lap
I must get around to donating her left over diabetic food to the RSPCA

Our almost 11yo has caught 4 rats in the past 6 days. She caught 2 today, not as large as the previous pair, but she brings them home intact but dead and stands on the back deck screaming for someone to come and see. After I took the first couple off her she was reluctant to give away today's spoils, however I was able to bribe her with a Fantastic seaweed biscuit for each rat today. They must taste better than a rat.

Still l would rather her bring home rats, rather than the brown snake her younger sister brought home once.

True on the snake. She must be a real hunter. Any idea where she’s finding the rats?
Do you tell her she’s a clever girl?
