Hi. I'm doing a Discount Biz RTW with Swiss/Lufthansa and all sectors are fine except travelling HNL-SYD on QF. There is currently only one seat available, and we need 2. They won't let us take the one seat and the other person fly economy for that sector (still paying full biz RTW fare), so we are both waitlisted.

I'm only Silver FF (having been Gold and occasionally Platinum for the past 20 years, and this is the first year as Silver... with over 6 months left and only 40SC to go to Gold but not enough in time as need to book by Friday).

Any suggestions?

QF is unlikely to clear it unless someone actually cancels is my experience.

HNL-SYD on QF? Premium discount seats are like hens teeth ... likely too late now but I'd have been splitting PNR's and booking that single discount seat unless it was a companion fare.

Is that still the case since the (what appears to be a more or less permanent until they retire them) upgrade to B747?

Your status is unlikely to affect this much (unless potentially P1 or CL to request a D or I be opened depending on the fare rules of the RTW ticket sold by LH/LX - I suspect I class is the culprit). It's a revenue management issue unfortunately and QF usually holds back on the inventory once initial allocations are xhausted. You've picked one of the more popular routes.

Could you maybe break the RTW ticket at LAX instead or at least use the RTW to get you to HNL, add in an open jaw of sorts(or ARNK) and then go LAX-SYD and add in a HNL-LAX separate sector?
I know backtracking and all, but prob the only easy way to get those 2 seats in J.

I used to have QF open up L and D seats on oneworld RTW tickets all the time - even as Bronze.
That's all but dried up now.

I had been getting 1 or 2 seats opened per trip for 5 years running. I've had 1 seat opened in the last 6 years.

It would also be harder as the LH/LX fares are basically those of LH (or LX) and QF won't want to go near this stuff as they're going to be issued as part of LH fares.. that's a step removed from OW fares plus even if they did open up inventry there's no guarantee that there aren't other waitlists that would gobble that up before the original agent could rab the seat since QF would have no control over the "foreign" booking

It would be cleared directly into the booking, completely bypassing the waitlist queue.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Surely only if QF has control of the PNR. I suppose they might have control of the PNR created in Amadeus as part of the larger booking?

PNR control is irrelevant. Any carrier can confirm space regardless.
