I'm travelling to Brisbane this afternoon for a meeting tomorrow. The last time I was in Brisbane there were trams in the streets! so I've no idea about the city. I'm staying at Hotel Jen near the station.

Can locals recommend a restaurant (Italian, seafood etc) moderately priced in that neighbourhood?

Head down to Eagle Street Pier on the River front. Great selection of pretty good food available. George's Paragon is reasonably priced for Seafood. Plenty of option in Town.

Thanks for that. Google Maps tells me it's only a 20 min walk from hotel and I guess Peter Dutton probably would say it's safe to go out to a restaurant in Brisbane .

No problems with safety but if in doubt about a $7 uber will cover it

Go for the walk. Mild day of 24C forecast.
Get onto Creek St. and walk down hill until you can't go any further. Walk when the man goes green at intersections.

Georges is not bad.We went there ~5 weeks ago and enjoyed our meal.
But another we found very good was the Three Blue Ducks at the new W Brisbane.A branch of their trendy Byron Bay restaurant,Did a review of that one.
A few quickies for the Drrons..

For a more scenic route, take the free CityHopper (the ferries in red not blue) from North Quay to Eagle Street pier...

Thanks, Ron.... looks good but servings sizes look American (ie substantial). But closer to my hotel so may give it a try seeing as ScoMo is paying part of the meal .
The lamb dish was for 2 people.Sides are large but at the tables around us the meals for 1 person didn't seem so large.

Public PUBLIC. Award Winning Restaurant & Bar in Brisbane’s CBD is the best restaurant close to Hotel Jen at about 200m, but not cheap. Although I've only had bar snacks at Three Blue Ducks (eating there properly for the first time tonight actually) it seems great.

Best close-ish Italian is Julius on Fish Lane (walk over the Kurilpa bridge or Uber).

Best close-ish Seafood, probably Gambaros on Caxton St, but try to avoid walking through the Roma St Transit Centre... it's awful.

I really enjoyed Madame Wu there.
