Not a new complaint at the moment I'm sure but I'm having some issues booking a flight and wondered if anyone has any bright ideas.
I'm currently booking a flight to the UK from Adelaide for 2-14 Jan. Despite being WP there are of course no classic reward seats available for release and since I don't want to shell out approx $15k which is apparently the going rate for a return in J I will be flying Y.
I have two complications.
One is I have a ski trip to Italy booked, returning around lunchtime on the 14th, with inflexible flights. I am considering booking my own flight - £19 and 15k QF points - back to London which is a more convenient airport. For added complexity, this flight is NOT available to buy via Qantas, EXCEPT as a classic reward flight.
- I can't see how this will have any impact on anything since not turning up for the return flight is the last thing in the booking
- Any thoughts about doing this? Presumably Tui and maybe the ski company will hate me but that sounds like a them problem (unless they bar me from travelling with them again, which seems extreme).
Secondly, if I book this flight under the same PNR as the flight from UK to Aus I will no longer have to pay £150+ UK APD which is another factor making it worth doing. However I cannot book flights from Aus-UK and back and also include the flight from Italy on the same booking, and I can't seem to get through to anyone competent at Qantas who can do it (failed to get through to domestic CC after 5 tries today and an hour total with two people who either left me on hold for a long time only to tell me no or tried quite hard and only succeeded in producing a ticket cost about $4k more than the one I could get online for everything except the Italy flight.
- I have been told a couple of times they cannot book a classic reward flight as a sector within a multi-city booking that is otherwise paid for with cash. Is this true?
- If so my theory is I should be able to book a multi-city flight with cash and separately book the classic reward flight from Italy and Qantas should be able to pair them in the same booking so that I am not liable for air passenger duty.. is that the case?
- Finally, any tips for getting through to a well-trained call centre? I tried multiple times today, during East coast working hours, inputting my WP FF number. Thanks..
Thanks and sorry for all the words.
