I'm travelling Brisbane to Perth return in mid-June on QF. I'd prefer to quote my AA number but one of the two legs is in N class which doesn't earn on AA. Can I use my QF number in one direction and my AA number in the other on a round trip booking? It certainly doesn't give me this option online. Any thoughts?

I believe that functionality exists, but it's not worth using due to a high level of operator error (by the airline) when they input the FF numbers. It's not something that is done regularly by them and is easy to stuff up.

Where is your N class sector? Probably the easiest way is to either put your AA number or QF number in the booking, then ask at the Qantas Club or Service Desk for them to change the number when you are about to fly the sector that won't earn with AA and get them to reprint the boarding pass. Before the next sector, ask them to change the FF number back to your AA one and get them to reprint the boarding pass.

The other option is to remove your FF numbers completely and claim each flight individually - but this could also have issues.

None of these methods are foolproof though, and there is still a chance that the flights won't credit where they should.

I have had flights credit to the wrong program, both programs and neither program doing this sort of thing.

It is worrth doing if it works but be prepared for it not to work and you wont be disappointed.

As a reference I have been successful in getting QF to reverse points that posted to the wrong account but not as successful in then getting AA to credit those points.

On my upcoming DONE4 I am going to be risking some allocations like this but i am trying to work out the "safest" routing - like putting all three sequential flights on the same number rather than trying to remember to switch programs in HKG on a JFK-LHR-HKG-AKL non-stop trip...

Just make sure when changing programs for the second leg that you give them the right number!! (unlike a certain AFFer who shall, ahem, remain nameless  ).

And thanks for reminding me to resume chasing the lost AA miles (definitely much more effort chasing the miles than it was giving the checkin agent the incorrect FF number)!

My change of program was for different reasons though - needed to keep AA miles alive. Ended up doing so via points.com

The safest option is just to claim the miles afterwards

The other approach is to have the appropriate number in for the outbound, then call res and have them remove the FF number ( check by looking on checkmytrip ) and then get them to add the number for the flight home
