I am glad I am not there this time. I have been in Thailand a couple of times when they have held elections and I hate almost everything being forced to shut down for 2-3 days. Oh well....

DFAT have updated travel advice to Thailand due to the national elections taking place today to 'high degree of caution';

Travel Advice for Thailand - Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Could be storm in a teacup but good to know;

Warning on Thai election violence | Herald Sun

Red Shirts Win by Landslide
Pro-Thaksin party wins Thai election by landslide - exit poll
313/500. Oh dear. The streets will be noisy, mostly everyone happy and safe - at least until formal
moves to dig up dirt can work to rock the applecart.

The old money/ Old power have mis-read the mood badly. Some deep reflection will be going on.

Currently in Bangkok,

There is a major problem in Thailand and I'd advise everyone to stay away. Due to the election...........

***They have stopped the flow of alcohol for 30 hours***

Lucky I got the emergency supplies from the 7-11 just before the ban.

No violence to speak of, other than the post-curry bowel movement, I'll be experiencing in 7 hours.

The big question now is will the Army and the ruling elite accept the Election result.
Could be a lot more trouble in store for Thailand.In the Bangkok Post over 50% in a poll think there will be post election violence.

Unfortunately with the lower class winning the elections the minority middle and upper class will more than likely cause protests and riots to try and gain control.

Surely with Thaksin's sister as PM he will have the red carpet rolled out for his return?

Interesting times ahead...

Damn, my 18 year old DD is transitting through Bangkok tomorrow on way to Frankfurt. Hmm, hopefully all will be okay.

Hopefully all the major protagonists know by now that inconveniencing tourists is not the way to achieve any positive outcomes.

What does DD mean? Is it her bra size? Surely not, that would seem way too personal information to post here.

DD = darling daughter, DH = darling husband (especially when they are being a pain in the A), DS = darling son

Obviously "girl" boards use a different set of abbreviations to "boy" boards.

She is doing a gap year before engineering next year and is off to work as an au pair in Frankfurt until mid January.

Been in Bangkok the past 3 days and all is well here, no sign of anything amiss. Plus, the liquor never stoppped in the club lounge, it was only when I made it to the restaurants after happy hour that I realised I was meant to be sober on Sunday.. I'm staying at the Centara Grand and it's an amazing hotel for the price. Normally stay in the Fairmonts and Westins etc. so not the absolute best but nice hotels and this place matches very well
