Destinations you wouldn't go to?

I found that write-up to have little substance. Shrek would use it as dunny paper, I'd imagine.

Different people will like and dislike different places for different reasons. I doubt anyone can come up with a definitive list of places not to visit and that list will be ambulatory over time.

Couldn't agree more, in this case I was just curious as to people's opinions - for example I learnt a great deal about Lesotho in this thread.

Well yes but then the Gold Coast is the same at schoolies. You can’t label a country by the actions of Aussies behaving badly. The locals don’t like ‘em either.

I felt under threat in Vietnam and was later robbed there by a cyclo driver slashing a bag off me as I crossed the street. I’d never return but I know others who love the country. I just didn’t.

I will not be going to the Gold Coast again either - once was enough.:) I know it is not the most sensible reason to avoid a country but we all have our own little foibles and moments of irrationality.

However, your not loving Vietnam seems perfectly reasonable.

India - My perception is the whole country is just overpopulated, full of beggers and has a poor human:toilet ratio.

Been to Vietnam earlier in the year though, felt completely safe (though I was in regional DaNang)

Sure you can't label a country by the behaviour of Aussie bogans but you can sure do your best to avoid the areas they frequent the most.

For me that's Fiji, Bali and coughet.

I don't like going to places where law and order has broken down.
I don't like the feeling of being constantly on edge and under seige from theives circling around us like hungry sharks. Very hard to relax in such circumstances.
The worst such places I've been to so far were Madrid, Rome and Naples - never going back there again.
Regards,
Renato

I am going to be more nuanced than say Bali - I'll say that I wouldn't go to Kuta instead. Never been there, never had a desire to take even the relatively short amount of time to visit the place when already in Bali.

I wish I had such highly held morals that I could avoid any state that displays a blatant ignorance for human rights, criminalizes homosexuality and so on and on. But then, I should probably also not have bought that shiny new iPhone which surely was produced like every iPhone exploiting poor Chinese land workers or stop eating bacon because all those little piggies are just far too cute to eat.

In the real world, I am no where near that picky and have learnt that just because a government is bad, that doesn't mean that all people in that country are bad- I had some great work trips to Russia, for example. Work trips, that's a different one anyway- while as a gay man I would certainly not select a homophobe country as my holiday destination if shared with my partner, on a work trip I am far more willing to give it a go.

Pretty much anywhere I'd travel on such a trip as long as there's not an active war raging. And they gotta send me in Business minimum, otherwise forget it, needless to say :p

I wouldn't say there's anywhere really that I would actively not go ever, apart from the obvious warzones etc. (AFF meet up in Luhansk and the Donbass anyone??) . But then again there are also places I have no overwhelming desire to go to at the moment, but wouldn't actively avoid. e.g Lady_Lenny likes to talk about going to India from time to time and I'm sure one of those times we'll actually get around to booking it, but I'm not going to be the one pushing for it.

By the same token though there are places higher up my list of destinations that don't really feature on hers Central Asia/Mongolia mainly.

A mix of places I won't go to nor go back to.

Israel, Mexico, Turkey, Egypt, UAE, Indonesia, obvious war zones, not overly interested in most of South America, except Patagonia and Uruguay and where Rally Argentina is run, seen enough of what I want in Cenral America. No desire to go back to a lot of mainland China, nor India, except for a few places in both.

Realy want to go to Central Asia, Georgia, Armenia, glad I got to visit places like Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran when I did.
