Yesterday, departing BNE, gate staff looked at my boarding pass (printed card type) and said "Thank you Mr.swanning_it, have a nice flight".

Very polite, but the lady didn't swipe the bar code. I was going to question her on it, but decided to wait and see what happened.

There I was, seated in 4F awaiting what I assumed to be a foregone conclusion........Bing, "If Mr Swanning_it is on board, could you please identify yourself to staff".

The call came for two others, but not me. We took off and no dramas.

This is the first time ever I've experienced that. My boarding pass was only viewed, not scanned and not manually marked off a manifest, so I was wondering.......why not?

I'll be peeved if neither SCs nor points credit!

At the most basic I would suggest the staff member operating at the gate was overcome with the aura of 'swanning'ness and simply forgot to scan it.:D

In the 1000+ times I have boarded over the years this happened to me a few times early on (serfty'ness I guess rather than swanning'ness :p) and I have since tried to ensure my BP is always properly scanned ... with a polite 'have you scanned it' or similar ... ;)

By the number of times I've heard names called and someone respond, it does seem to happen. Happen to +1 before.

maybe when you appeared as a 'failed to board' along with the other 2..the F/A that boarded you could have confirmed to gate staff that you did actually board...and they did a 'computer adjustment' without the need to page you or request to see your boarding pass to scan... being in J/C may have helped also to identify you! :D (were the others from J/C or Y/C??) this COULD be the reason..not saying it WAS the reason

Yes, that must be it........I must have that DYKWIA stride up the priority lane down pat. I do get sick of beating autograph hunters off with my personal IFE device

Genuinely though, you lot have now got me worried and I wasn't in J.....just another nobody in zoo class. I'm currently sitting in the VA Mackay lounge, with the phone to my ear on hold to Velocity to attempt to get a 241 booking, so I may ask the angels here if they can see if I was on that flight (according to the VA computer).

I had a flight that got diverted. The flight was Brisbane to Mackay but couldn't land and was diverted to Proserpine and then we got a bus back to Mackay.

I was checking my past flights and they had included a flight from Mackay to Proserpine with its own flight number.

When I tried chasing my SC for the BNE to MKY leg I was told that I never bordered the flight.

I had to send off several emails explaining exactly what happend that day, eventually I managed to get the missing SC

I've had the opposite where the FA was off with the fairies and scanned my BP once, then twice and it came up with an error. She tried to send me to the counter but I said it has been scanned properly the first time. Oh she said and off I went.

I get paged a LOT.

Most of the time they bump me to a different seat to balance the plane (I usually travel solo, without luggage). Last flight it was to fill an exit row.

I've also been bumped off an overweight flight in BNE after boarding. They gave me a voucher for a free flight the next time I travelled.

Never been a failure to scan though.
