Not a Qantas specific question - but I note there had been a successful trial for smartgate in Brisbane and the rollout was happening across Australia starting earlier this month

Anyone know if they are rolling it out city by city or is each city getting or is each city perhaps getting a few at a time?

Interested to note if these have been seen anywhere other than Brisbane yet?

Roll out should have started this month according to their website:

A total of 92 departures SmartGates will be progressively rolled out at each of Australia’s eight major international airports starting at Sydney International Airport in June 2015 and finishing in mid-2016.

has anyone seen / used them yet in places other than BNE? ie are they in Sydney yet
Whats everyones experience with them?

saw them building them in Sydney last month. almost complete by the looks of things

My partner flew out of SYD last Friday and said they were there but not operational yet. Think she said there were 8 of them.

Apparently they've moved the benches for filling out departure cards to outside the doors and there was general chaos inside with only 4 or 5 officers on the desks and huge lines of people trying to get through. I guess it was a Friday afternoon and the start of school holidays...
