I have heard that you can get low cost but quality dental treatment in Thailand. I will be going to Samui over Xmas. Is anyone aware of any good dentists in Koh Samui that they can recommend?

Would you really want to risk it Thailand?

For example, I believe for Laser Eye treatment, many asian countries are recommended for quality & cost, but Thailand is a big no go.

I have heard Thailand just doesn't have the safeguards that some other asian countries have for medical treatments.

I've had laser whitening done in coughet a few times and never had any dramas. The hospitals are as good as or better than ours here so I've never been concerned about safety issues (it's quite a large market for Europeans in Thailand).

That said, can't recommend anywhere in Samui however I'm sure there will be somewhere.

Ive heard bad stories from Thailand when it comes to dentistry. However Malaysia is well known for good quality and well priced dentists!

Would you really want to risk it Thailand?

Several times I've had dental work done in Thailand and never once felt I was 'risking' anything other than great dental work for a tenth of the price it would cost in Oz.

Yes like any destination there are some 'below par' operators but using common sense and checking out an establishment means you will have no problem.

Not sure about Samui but ask around for a referral and check out a few places before making your decision.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

I was hopping for a good report or referral from FF members. I don't think I could trust simply asking around in Samui.

It seems like Samui is an unknown quantity in relation to dental services, so I may give it a miss.

There are some really great dentists in Thailand but there are many shonky dentists as well.

One place to try could be Samui International Hispital. It has a good reputation but the dentists do change from time to time. Do some research on Thai websites like ThaiVisa. This thread (Good Dentist on Samui) although a little old has some current information. Good luck and don't go to the first dentist you see....
