Denpasar Dreaming.

Back in wifi land. Set off for Ubud today.
I think I am still to actually get it here in Bali.
I think I see some of the appeal.
But endless markets selling stuff I don't need or want is a bit pointless.
Sure a good cheap massage is fine. Beer at $2.50 a stubby is pretty cool, nice food under $10.00 a plate also great.
Or me the resort idea is good because having been into Kuta and now Ubud I find much of it as many on AFF have already commented.

But I'm here now so tomorrow I head out again.
Had a brief stop at Ubud Palace today.

I also had a wander through the monkey forest.
Next time I won't buy any bananas. The monkeys are way too aggressive.

Nope, they sell them in there

So you bought bananas IN monkey forest. Worse!

My niece from UK was bitten by a monkey in UBUD. Full on rabies course.

MrP and P kidlets hated monkey forest. I was walking ahead with our guide and the three of them were to be seen cowering together in a pack several metres behind. Those monkeys are feral.

Well it's a one off.
I decided at that point I would throw the lot in different directions.
That left me free to wander.
It was a nice distraction on a hot day.

Some of you know that I love to cook. I am not the best cook in the world, but what I lack in finesse I make up for with passion. ( or so I reckon). I have enough failures to keep me grounded.
But there are detain things in life for which perfection is the only acceptable standard. Cooking eggs is one of these areas.
Yesterday I ordered poached Eggs. They were quite frankly awful. But I'm in Bali not Paris London or Sydney. So I put it down to experience and just smile and say thank you.
I was asked what I didn't like about them. I mentioned the vinegar which I could smell / taste from 6 feet away.
Today I was greeted with a big smile and was asked if I would like placed eggs. I accepted as the head waiter had made arrangements for the breakfast cook to do them in a pan, and not use vinegar. Unfortunately she wanted to boil them. So I was quietly remonstrating with her to turn the temp down when the Hotel Chef came out.
I though "Oh O" I've crossed a line here.
But no. He (chef) was pleased to hear me explain to his cook about low temp cooking for eggs. The eggs were still poor. But I think the quality is not what we are used to in Oz. Anyway we (Chef David) and I chatted. I invited him to sit with me.
He is from the French Basque Country , after talking such things a Sous Vide cooking , menu plans and how difficult it is to teach something culturally different from the Balinese way, we have swapped biz cards and I am going to have some fun working in his kitchen today. ( thank god I brought closed in shoes and long pants with me).
And tomorrow I am having lunch with him and his family.
Who was it said that travel broadens the mind?!!
This holiday has taken an interesting turn.
Stay tuned for photo diary of kitchen experience.

Hey, that's brilliant, GPH!:):):)
(And just as well you were maintaining those lounge-worthy dress standards.)
Cook up a storm!

I suspect that Mrs GPH will make sure I am properly supervised next time. After a close call with monkeys and time share salesmen i am not keen to tempt fate, I better stay out of trouble from here on in.
But planning to go to Nusa Dua for the parade tonight. So who knows what trouble I will get into.

Oh, I forgot to mention, he has a vacuum pack of 1/2 dozen Truffles. He and I are going to see what we can cook using them.

Will a photo suffice?
I shall do what I can.
However I think they are black.

I had to promise my Travel Doctor not to go anywhere near monkeys or dogs. Otherwise I was getting Rabies vaccinations!!

NB. I was attacked by monkeys 30 years ago and a gardener shooed them away.

PS. The Eggs Benedict at Intercontinental in Vietnam are the best I've had anywhere in the world
