Denied seat recline on long haul

I don't think it is a clear cut as you think.

I walked through the economy cabin on QF52 yesterday and I would say that only ~50% of the seats were reclined and not all of them fully reclined either. What would be interesting is how many of those reclining would have actually reclined had the person in front not reclined?

And I also witnessed further stupidity on a Sri Lankan airlines flight in business class a couple of weeks earlier. I was in row 2 with no one in front of me in row 1. The IFE is in the back of the seat in front. I noticed the person in row 1 middle reclining during the short flight and the seat recline is more than 45 degrees.

So if the person in front reclines the IFE is no longer usable as you would need to lie on the floor be able to watch it.

I thought the monitors on Sri Lankan were on a pivot... so they can be adjusted if the seat in front is reclined?

ill put my hand up to reclining on Sri Lankan... even for ultra short flights like hkg-bkk, and bkk-can... I'm reclined (and asleep) pretty much from wheels up to just before wheels down. I need the sleep. I'm not sure where the stupidity comes in? :)

A pivot is not going to do much when the seat in front is reclined and the monitor is facing the floor.

Having IFE monitor in seat back.

i thought they can be angled outwards to compensate for the seat recline (pretty much like the ones on qantas economy?) pretty soon it'll all be flat beds anyway so no need to worry :)

Can't say I agree with this statement at all. The screen rotates also allowing adjustment should the person in front recline. "Problem Solvered!"

I could not for the life of me work out how if I could see the screen of the reclined seat in front if I am sitting upright.

From memory the screen is aligned to just below eye level when sitting upright and when seat in front is reclined 45+ degrees the back of the seat is no longer visible so I am not sure how any amount of rotating screen is going to help make the screen visible.

Perhaps I need another Sri Lankan business class flight.
