Hi all, just booked a trip with Delta but obviously MEL - LAX part (on way to GSO) is VA. I upgraded my seats as much as I could with Delta for internal flights but cannot do anything for the VA leg. Does anyone know if I should talk to VA to try to upgrade (paying, not points)?

Also, I put in my VA FF, is it better to earn miles/status with Delta or VA? Or does it even matter?

Many thanks in advance

Are you able to log in to manage your booking on the Virgin Australia website? If so, see if you can pay extra for Economy X seats. (If you can't log on with your Delta PNR, you may need to call Delta to get the Virgin Australia PNR, and/or call Virgin to ask for the PNR by quoting the ticket number.)

Regarding where to credit the points, it really depends on your needs. If you're based in Australia, Velocity is a logical choice.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Call Delta, ask for the VA PNR. Then open the booking on the VA website, and see if you can change seats.

Sometimes seat upgrades are not possible on codeshares, or give you an error on the website. In that case, try calling VA.

I might jump in here as well as I had some questions about DL ticket and VA metal.

I am VA gold but booked on a DL ticket thanks to my boss.

I am trying to get economy x seats to LAX and back again. No access through Delta website and no access on their website. Rang Delta and couldn't get a VA PNR and they didn't have access to the seats either.

Does anyone know if I'll be able to upgrade at the airport?

Further to this, will I have access to the normal lounges? SQ at Brisbane airport and Emirates at LAX on the return leg (flying back to Melbourne).

Code shares are a nightmare.

Absolutely no reason Delta can't provide you with the VA PNR. Call back, or maybe try Twitter.

I believe Delta (if your ticket was booked directly with DL) uses Travelport as the GDS, so your booking should be available for viewing at www.viewtrip.com. If booked via a travel agent, this may not be the case. If you can view the booking on Viewtrip, you should be able to see the VA PNR - from memory, Viewtrip calls this a "Confirmation number", though it might be tagged as a Reference number, a Reloc (record locator) or similar.

Once you have the VA PNR, as others have said above, you should be able to use it to select seats on the VA website. Seat selection should work, but if you're looking to purchase an upgrade to Economy X, I suspect though, that this won't work as that requires payment of $$ (and there's no real mechanism for VA to sell that to you on a codeshare).
