Delayed LAN801 - how late before they put you on a QF flight?

In summary, anyone with any QF or OW status at all.:D

They are surprisingly generous. I remember thinking that, too.

I hadn't been there in a while, and not with a line that big, so I'd forgotten about the separate line.

I also feel guilty while I walk past, pulling a hood over or keeping my head down to at least not witness the scowls of angry, obese Americans waiting, complaining and chomping on their Big Macs.

You could always hand out a few Big Macs as you walk past :!: :D

So I took LA 801 the other day with a similarly significant delay flagged well ahead of time.

At check-in, I asked if I could be moved to another flight. Was advised by the LAN check-in agent that because my ticket had been booked through LAN, I could not - but that I would have been able to if it had been QF ticketed.

Didn't want to not check-in and wait for the QF desk to open to again try my luck there, so I went ahead and endured the long wait in the cold AKL J lounge. I'd like to think that spreading out on the LAN J beds was my 'compensation', though we did also get a $12 AKL voucher which at least went towards a somewhat drinkable coffee.

Wow, so it must just be all a luck thing, depending on who you get?

How long was your delay in the end?

L.

Must just depend on the day & person. I was served by NZ ground crew at check-in, at least it appeared that way (I always presumed ground handling for LA was outsourced there, similar to SYD). Was booked on LA and had QF81 ticketed to transit to on another itinerary.

No QF50 on tuesdays at the time, so ended up on NZ101 in their cute but soon to die J A320. International transit desk was rubbish too, no premium + J/F line. Was good to try to AKL Koru lounge instead though.

Edit: it was delayed around 5 hours for me from memory, maybe more. The flight had only left South America around 1 or 2am NZ time. So yeah, circumstances vary here a lot.

Maybe luck, maybe my check-in agent wasn't on the ball or as helpful as she could have been (I was holding an I / Business class ticket, but didn't think that would have passed her notice), and maybe I could have tried with QF to see if they'd accommodate me.

To be frank, I'd had a bit of a rough night, and was in no mood for horse trading, so I didn't push it with anyone and just copped the delay.

We were re-scheduled to leave at 0930 and arrived just before 1100 SYD time (they'd advised us in the air that we'd make it by 1030, so something must have slowed us down unexpectedly in flight). It was a bit of a race through customs and on to the train (no messing about with the bus) and just managed to make it in time for my 1200 connection (separately ticketed, naturally - thankfully I had hand luggage only!).

When a friend flew out of AKL, IIRC the delay was 13 hours (or something ridiculous like that) for their LA801. They were auto re-booked onto the QF flight at 06:15 without even asking.

When ever I have used LA801 and it has been delayed I have been advised ahead of time.

The one time they did transfer me to QF50 (LA801 was cancelled due the earthquake) they did not tell me.

Go figure :!:
