Re: lost bags

It may make a difference to what I choose to pack as I will possibly be carrying sleepy children on my 90-minute dash between terminals at Heathrow.

No need to collect baggage at LHR, just follow signs for Flight Connections and head to T1 for your flight to GLA

When you check-in in Australia you can check your bags all the way to Glasgow. I strongly recommend this as the connection is much easier this way. On arrival in LHR, you simply follow the signs for the flight connections centre and then once getting there you follow the signs for Terminal 1. You won't go through any formal customs in LHR but instead will go through them in Glasgow once you pick up your baggage.

I'm not sure what Glasgow's customs arrangement involves, but Edinburgh's baggage carousel area has a red telephone on the wall with a sign that reads "Customs Notice: Passengers from Non-EU countries with items to declare should lift handset to contact customs". And that's it ! I suspect that Glasgow has a bigger customs presence, however, due to the larger number of non-EU flights at Glasgow.

End result: you can and should definitely check your bags all the way to Glasgow. If you tried to pick them up in LHR you'd be asking for trouble as you'd need a much longer connection time to allow you to collect your bags.

Enjoy the trip !

Same for arrivals at NCL. Very different to the process excercised here and in the places like the LOTFAP.

Olympic team still waiting for lost luggage

The Spanish Winter Olympic team have got off to an unfortunate start to the Games with several members of the 31-strong squad still waiting for their luggage to turn up after arriving in Turin Monday.

Competitors were left without skis, snowboards and cases after their luggage was lost on departure from the newly opened terminal at Madrid's Barajas airport, Spanish media reported on Thursday.

"Things haven't started well for reasons that have nothing to do with the competition," the head of the Spanish Olympic Committee Alejandro Blanco was quoted as saying by sports daily Marca.

"It's sad that we are arguing about something like this before the Games .... They are looking for the luggage in Madrid."

Spain's only realistic medal hope is skier Maria Jose Rienda, who is competing in the giant slalom event. She is not expected to arrive in Turin until Friday.
