Hopefully we've had our last 747 Skybed flight. We do have QF LAX-JFK-LAX-BNE coming up in Sept/Oct... hopefully the 787 doesn't get subbed at the last minute.

EF shows 789 for SYD-SFO on 04DEC?
744 on 03DEC and there's J award space that I can see.

The 747s will still be flying to Vancouver on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays over December 2019 - January 2020. But yes, the end for Qantas' 747s is imminent.

Indeed, the last flight is on 3 December. I can't see any J awards though.

A mate was the FO. Don’t know who the Captain was.

It’s the sort of number that gets lost, but I wonder how many QF 747 flights have been to and from the USA. The 747 is deservedly an aircraft that has engendered great loyalty. A tough old girl, that very rarely put a foot wrong.

Still need CASA to come to the party on JNB and SCL.

With ZNL/M/N due mid-2020 they could all be gone within 12 months.

The 787 is already slated for SCL from June 2020. I suspect JNB could switch to A380 service though, depending on what happens with HND.

On QF74 SFO-SYD last night. Good seat (everything worked!). Excellent A380 cabin crew doing their first 789. First half of flight was noticeably choppy.

Which class of travel were you in? (I'm curious about which seat you found to be good.)

Odd numbered window row J seats are more 'private' as the seat is configured on the window side, where even numbered rows have the seat/bed on the more exposed aisle side. Some rows have one window others one & half. Maybe someone gets two? Otherwise not a lot of difference. And nice to have everything 'new' and a large enough foot shelf.

I'm hoping our 747 flights to JNB in July/Aug next year stay as 747. I initially booked upper deck but then decided 'nose' cabin is roomier. We 'did' upper deck in both directions SYD-SFO and it was fun, especially with the room the exit row gave us, but don't need to do it again.

In answer to Mattg's question about which business suite seat is good. I've only sat in the 'window' seat (x4) but my partner has sat in both window and aisle (x2 each). He reckons aisle is better for daytime as you have much more space to spread your stuff out, plus you can get up if you need to during meal service. Window is quieter for sleep.
