Earn Double Elite-Status Qualifying Miles

Qualify or re-qualify for AAdvantage Gold®, AAdvantage Platinum®, or AAdvantage Executive Platinum® status faster than ever with this special promotion. Just book your trip and fly on American Airlines, American Eagle, or AmericanConnection® between March 18, 2009, and June 15, 2009, and you'll earn double elite-qualifying miles - the miles that bring you closer to AAdvantage elite-status membership - at an accelerated rate.
Offer applies only to new reservations booked between March 18, 2009, and June 15, 2009. Registration prior to travel is required.
Double elite-status qualifying miles are not redeemable for award travel, but do count toward qualification for AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum, and AAdvantage Executive Platinum status. AAdvantage elite-status qualifying double-mile offer is valid only for travel on eligible purchased, published fare tickets on American Airlines, American Eagle, or AmericanConnection marketed and operated flights between March 18, 2009, and June 15, 2009. Promotion does not apply to travel on mileage award tickets or fares that are ineligible for AAdvantage mileage accrual. Flights operated by our codeshare partners or oneworld® alliance carriers are not eligible for this promotion. Offer applies only to new reservations booked between March 18, 2009, and June 15, 2009. Registration prior to travel is required. This offer does not increment the member's elite-qualifying points, segments or award-eligible mileage balance. Double elite-qualifying miles will be calculated at 100% of the elite-qualifying miles earned for each applicable flight and will be posted to the account of the traveling AAdvantage member within six to eight weeks after the qualifying activity is posted to your account.

And I paid for my DONE4 a week ago.But then I have 3 unallocated days in the USA in April so I guess Mrsdrron can go shopping and I might fly back and forth across the USA.

Hmm I'm literally about to book a DONE4 through AA.

My reading of this is that if I take a codeshare flight ex-ICN to the US it will not count towards double EQMs, nor will any other OneWorld flights - just purely AA flights on AA metal, right?

Yes. Purely AA on AA metal. If you want an extra 5.5k EQM and have spare segments you could do ICN-NRT-US or similar, with ICN-NRT as a codeshare, and NRT-US on AA metal.

Interesting. I have been looking to sign up to a Platinum challenge in recent times. Being based in LHR, I was hoping to snag a cheap fare to NYC and qualify for platinum at the same time. Unfortunatley a LHR-NYC return is no where near 10,000 miles. But, perhaps those in the know could assist me, am I correct in my view that if I flew a flight between LHR-NYC (and it qualified at 1 point per mile) then when I double it I would hit the 10,000 limit and meet the challenge requirements?

It would not assist in a challenge. The Challenge requires that you earn 10,000 Elite Qualifying Points whilst this relates to double Elite Qualifying Miles.

The only way the Platinum Challenge can be completed on a non-stop LHR-JFK is by using Y or B class economy or travel in business/first

If wanting to do the challenge in discount economy, you will need to ensure that you fly at least 10,000 miles and use a booking class that earns 1pt per mile

If I sign up for this, will flights on AA metal still accumulate points for redemption at the standard rates?

I understand you wont get the bonus, but will I still get the points that would have ordinarily been awarded to me?

Hmm - I registered for this bonus offer prior to travel but after booking my tickets (they were booked in April), but do not seem to have received the double EQM.

Is it worth following up with AA now or better to wait a few weeks to see if they post?

FWIW, I was on a platinum challenge, so I'm not sure if that has any negative effect on earning double EQMs.

I am interested as well as to when the points are added to the profile.

I just did around the world and took the family half way and they returned within the time frame of the promotion. Have not seen any additional points.

Would like to see them as it would get me to Platinum before my next trip and allow me access to the lounges.

thanks in advance

The challenge has nothing to do with EQMs.
When did the regular miles your flights post?

Thanks - the reason I asked was because I noticed on the FT PLT challenge thread that a number of people had issues with getting the miles towards elite upgrades recognised from the qualifying flight - not a problem for us, and in any case, most of our AA mileage came after the challenge was completed. But there also seemed to be some people whose DBEQM bonus miles hadn't posted yet while others' had, so I wasn't sure if other factors might have affected EQM posting from this promo.

Regular miles posted within 3 business days of each flight - I definitely was signed up for the bonus offer prior to travel, and purchased my ticket within the eligibility window.

Might give them a call to follow up, but to be honest, even if the DBEQM posted, I don't think EQM will really help me get to EXP this year - I may have to rely on EQP instead. :)
