David Jones in voluntary administration

Tracking is currently down due to voluntary admin?
Stuff I bought directly at DJs is still showing pending points transfer in the DJs app. 🤞 they post - due in a day or two.

I boarded a QF flight an hour ago… the advert I had to watch to get wifi was for the DJs points partnership

Very sad day, my thoughts are with employees losing jobs just before Christmas 😢
I am concerned that my student who is having a Christmas casual offer will lose her job too.
Regrettably, Australian economy is going toward the wrong direction.

DJ's QF points post straight after the returns/change of mind period ends, which from memory is 30 days. Hopefully the administrators do not damage the brand further by reneging on these partnerships especially since DJ will keep trading and be back after a restructure and loss making store closures.

I would warn everyone with DJ gift cards to spend ASAP, or you will face $0 value

Regrettably, Australian economy is going toward the wrong direction.

I suspect DJ's, and retail suffering is more than just the economy, a perfect storm of belt tightening, ongoing shifts to online and specialist retailers, traditional DJ's clientele literally dying and a few own-goals thrown in there. As time goes by, department store like DJ's and Myer seem more like a relic from the past than ever. To be extreme, there's a reason Jeff Bezos is so rich and DJ's is in administration.

Just a few weeks ago, I was teaching the proposed merger of equals between DJ and Myer - DJ might have survived if they accepted the merger.
Anyway, I suspect DJ needs to be smaller and more niche to survive.

I feel like saying that department stores can't survive and thrive because of online sales, is akin to saying full service carriers are going the way of the dodo because of LCCs

I’m unsure if this is still an option. Usually, the administrator suspends the acceptance of gift cards.

Perhaps it might be worth trying anyway. If unsuccessful, try again if DJs exits administration.

The commercial rents are excessive.
And the landlords push all outgoings onto you as the business as well.

17 Westfield locations paid $45 million in rent for first 9 months of 2026

DJs departing leaves big footprints without rents paid will cause rents within these big centres to drop lower. Not the first time a big retailer goes under - its usually the family small businesses

DJ GCs were still accepted today...got rid of my last $50 GC yesterday but +1 was not happy with the wooden cheese platter board I bought (nothing else to buy)...so returned it today for a refund (to GC), and she used it immediately to buy lipstick :(

I would be using up any GCs if you still have any TOMORROW!!

Really feel sorry for the staff...

You can still use gift cards in store. Tons of people doing that tonight when I went to use mine up

Those gift cards are promotional gift cards and only have thirty days from date of issue before you can't use them any more

The gift card money would have been handed over weeks or months ago. So using them now is fine for the customer but perhaps not so fine for DJs

As stock is pulled by owners, there’ll be nothing left to sell
