Apparently a Dash 8 had a tailstrike on landing at BNE this afternoon, not good.

Seems fairly minor, it would have probably just scraped the protective layer under the tail which is designed for the very purpose of protecting the internal components of the plane from tail strikes. As the article said, it was a "minor scrape" with no impact for passengers and the aircraft in question will probably just require a bit more maintenance than usual in the coming days.

I like how the media still tries to exaggerate things like this.

What happened to the captain?

What would you expect to happen:?:

From your post I assume you are blaming the Captain when there are many possible causes.

Look at the link to the ATSB report and you will see where the official enquiry is going.

Agree , Aviation safety systems rely on non punitive action in the interests of open and comprehensive reporting of problems.

Six months before an outcome. What would typically happen with the Captain/First Officer in the meantime? Are the stood down/suspended from flying until at least then? I assume at this stage that no-one would know what caused the incident.

One of the smoothest landings I ever had in a Dash8 was a tail strike into Dili. After the initial contact with the runway we were airborne again momentarily before landing (again).

Had an unscheduled overnight in Dili until an engineer flew over from DRW the next day to inspect the airframe but all was well & tail skids had done their job.

I saw an episode of Air Crash Investigation that involved a CI 747 that crashed when the stress on the rear pressure bulkhead tore the plane apart mid-air & was attributed to a tail strike some 22 years earlier!
