There have been some threads on this in the past but they're closed and several years old.

Can anyone comment on the two DTs? I know they're right next to each other, but is one better than the other? Both in terms of rooms, service and pool area.

There's also the Hilton down the road too. Not sure how much benefit EL access would be come May. As a gold, what's the free breaky like?

I have stayed at both a few times but a few years ago now - my gut feeling was the DT by Hilton Hotel esplanade Darwin was my favourite with a HH gold floor etc. but I cannot really recall either enough to offer an accurate comment

@penegal used to regularly stay at the Hilton.

As a Gold I received the full buffet breakfast

DT by Hilton is still closed, DT esplanade reopened about 2 weeks ago. I haven’t stayed at either DT but have had 2 stays at the Hilton this year and it’s average at best. Prefer a 1 bed apartment at one of the mantra’s for the same money and forgo the Hilton points and benefits tbh

I agree with @codyg ... Darwin is an example of where chain loyalty sees you stay in a glorified motel, the only thing missing is the crime scene tape.

The Hilton is the superior of the three properties by a country mile, however it's nothing too special by global standards.

The free breakfast benefit is hilariously inconsistently applied. Theoretically guests with continental should only have continental items, but once you are seated it's pretty easily mixed up (both by those seeking a free hot meal, and by the utterly confusing nature of it). Full breakfast does include eggs to order, with orders made via a waiter / member of staff. This is often not explained properly.

The coffee tax was in full swing during the last period I was there frequently, with only a handful of regular diamond guests being sneakily offered a free barista coffee by long term staff members.

It was actually much easier to get a free coffee at either of the two Doubletrees, however I would seldom recommend a hotel on that alone. A cup of good coffee will set you back about $4 at any of the [surprisingly very good] coffee shops a short walk from the Hilton.

Whilst the Hilton did treat returning Diamonds extremely well, the quality of the rooms, and executive lounge offerings was not much to write home about. My Doubletree experiences were limited during my frequent visits to Darwin as I just stayed at the Hilton.

When we were last there, we were upgraded to a suite. The lounge food and breakfast (with egg station by memory) was yummy, valet and staff on point. We dont drink coffee so dont know if they charge for that but valet would also put a bottle of cold water in our car.

Our suite was so comfy/large we didnt find the 2nd bathroom until the 3rd day

🤣

Okely - so next question - any intel on whether
💎
benefits are honoured at HH Darwin if booked through 3rd party?

Can’t help you there but would doubt it. It’s actually pretty tough to get a booking at all, I have to stay at the doubletree next week for a 5 night stay as it’s booked out (along with the mantras and Novotel)

Last time I stayed at a Hilton (WA), booked through 3rd party we got free breakfast but no lounge access and no upgrade. I did get a sympathy cookie though.

Doubletree in Perth? Not WA as in Waldorf Astoria? 😉
