Relating to airline's treatment of female staff.

Qatar Airways inclusion 'disgraces oneworld alliance' | Scoop News

Below are some rules which stand out to me:

QA contracts bar female workers from marrying for five years. Even after that period they must seek the airline’s permission to marry

Crewmembers are prohibited from entering a bar in uniform even if only to have a glass of water or soft drink

Eating or drinking in public are not permitted except in coffee shops or restaurants of crew layover hotel or airport. Changing into civilian clothes at the technical building or at any airport is strictly prohibited

Female cabin crew using non-QA transport except taxi or limousine service vehicles, whether in uniform or not, may not be dropped off at or picked up from any Qatar Airways official premises, by a male other than her father, brother or husband

Cabin crew are not permitted to volunteer themselves as a witness to any passenger complaint/s whether in the aircraft, at the airport or at any other location

Once employed by Qatar Airways, cabin crew must exclusively dedicate their time towards the fulfillment of their job function

OMG the rules a very harsh..

Below is a rule I thought very interesting,

the use of mobile phones and other entertainment gadgets whilst in uniform, are also not permitted under any circumstances

Harsh... But don't seem all that different to other airlines if you exclude the odd middle eastern sexism issues.

But then to judge by the cultural standards of the Middle East those rules would not seem harsh.
Who are we to judge.

I will judge. And I am prepared to suffer the consequences of that by going out of my way to NOT fly via the Middle East or on a Middle Eastern airline for this exact reason. I have travelled through DXB and RUH before realising just how my own treatment as a young female traveller, travelling alone on business would be received. Even if it means more complicated and expensive itineraries, I will go out of my way to avoid such issues in the first place by simply not going there.

*shrug* We all have our limits.

Wonder how Saudia Arabian airlines rules would compare???

I don't think they should bother trying to recruit many females here in Oz anyway...
