Beware the luggage scales on check in at Prague for Czech Airlines. 10 of us had cases weighed in, all came up well overweight. Consternation all round especially as most of our party had checked in under the 20kg allowance at other airports. One in particular had case 21 kgs at Melbourne, had a major "throw out" before Prague and weighed in at 23kg. None had bought souvenirs etc either so it wasn't that!
When weighed again at destination all were under allowance. Nice way of raising revenue!:?::(

That's a pity. :(

I once managed to sneak 34kg (with a ~20kg allowance) onto CSA (flying from Brno) without them even blinking. :)

Did it cost much?

Cheers,
- Febs.

Rupert Murdoch's brother in law is/was the Honorary Consul in Melbourne. Seriously, put this greivance to him to investigate.

Hi Febs. In a word YES! We later realised from the amount of carry on luggage crammed in the overhead lockers would have been the way to go.

I absolutely agree. As a former Czech resident, this sounds all too familiar.

I don't know if it's faulty equipment, or whether done on purpose. I put my bag up twice in less than a minute, and the second time it weighed in about 8kgs heavier. It had to be nudged, pushed, and taken off and on before the weight would go down.

When my cousin and I were flying to Australia one day apart, I got him to carry some items for me. All weighed at home, all under the limit, no worries. I was surprised when they arrived in Australia and told me that they had to throw half of my stuff out at the airport.

I only got those items now, six months later. But I also don't get my cousin's thinking on this, he was going to Australia for a month, while I was going back home to Australia (indefinitely)... He leaves my things behind and not his, to which he would come back to very soon. I love him regardless and it was just a few DVDs and a portable radio among other things. :D

Given I will be flying out of Prague (to another Euro destination) in November, this is interesting to know. Once I look closer at where I'm actually going, then I'll be able to decide on which airline I'll be using!

You might not be able to avoid it. I flew KE, but was checked in by OK staff.

I carried a marble grave stone from a family crypt in Vsenory thru the airport for "Mrs Michelin Tyres". It weighed in just fine

I can't possibly compete with a gravestone! You certainly must have had a good story!:p

Not really.

An Ambassador Plenipoteniary & Omnipotent wanted hard currency to retire on, and the rats wanted restitution of their grandparent's assets, and wanted immunity from being hung, drawn and quartered. It was a very smooth transition from communism in the end.

Had a similar experiance with Czech Airlines flying from Venice to Prague several years ago. Had flown in and out of several European ports - not a problem until check-in with Czech .Cost us about 150 Euro ! No further problems after that in Eurpoe or Nth America. One wonders !
