Looks great. I already travel Mel-HKG with CX because QF don't cater for business people going into southern China. How with seats like that J onwards to Europe will put them ahead if old BA and QF

I have First travel with CX in Jan and Feb 07, so no doubt I will miss out :(

Airline's new seat ends days of knee-crunching
Steve Creedy, Aviation writer

THE knee-crunching experience of economy-class travel will become a thing of the past with the first redesign of economy seats in decades.

Cathay Pacific has gazumped airlines poised to introduce new seats for the double-decker A380 by unveiling economy seats that guarantee extra space.

Cathay's hard-shell concept of business-class sleeper seats will allow economy passengers to recline without encroaching on the space of those behind. The seat slides down within the shell, which is fixed in place. Other changes will maximise knee and shin clearance.

<-snip->

The Cathay move will be particularly galling to A380 customers - such as Qantas, Emirates and Singapore Airlines - which have endured delays of more than a year because of production problems at European manufacturer Airbus.

Its weird. I flew cathay a couple of days ago and was reasonably impressed with the existing product. I did however acquire the little brochure on the new J seat. Didnt read it until I got home and was a tad confused. The brochure pretty much showed the existing J seat (the seat I was sat in) and not the new J seat :shock:

I will have another look tonight - but it definitely didnt look like the new seats :confused:

It gets confusing because CX still refer to their existing International J as their "new business class" despite the fact that it's not new anymore!

one of the reasons why NZ referred to their new business as business premiere - makes it very easy to distinguish without getting into the new/new-old/newish debate

And BA is now going to be confusing. With their last upgrades, their old cradle seats were called Old Club World (OCW) and the new flt beds called New Club World (NCW). So what do you call an upgrade to New Club World? Well they seem to be using Next Generation Club World (NGCW). So more acronyms. I wonder where they go after Next Generation?

NANASQ - Not As Nice As Singapore Airlines?

Thanks for the explanaiton of the new seats booklet - perhaps I should have left it on the aircraft for the next pax... :oops:

I'm looking forward to these new CX business seats. I've being flying to LHR quite a lot lately (3 times in the last 6 mths, 9 sectors on CX, 3 on BA), and really like CX already. The current seats are fine (not as good as BA for a sleep, but CX is more comfortable for a movie!). But the CX service, catering, lounges & IFE are all excellent, which makes it my oneworld favourite overall. So, when the new seats are rolled out, this should give them a clear advantage over BA & QF. I guess all the discounted CX BC seats will dissapear though.....

I stumbled across flying CX on my recent RTW ticket as the CX flights fitted in nicely with connections from LCA. I have two more RTW next year and even if I dont go to LCA I will definitely be trying to get on one of the new CX seats.

Given there is quite a lot of new seats being introduced do people have a scheme to find out whether the planned plane will have the new seats?
