CX planes and best seat options

Thanks MEL. It was seat guru and possibly the wrong variant. So, which loo does a PE person use then?

Best place to request a seat is via the CX manage booking function. Or call CX.

30H - not sure where you see a WC in front. There is no WC at the rear of the J cabin, or indeed anywhere in the PE cabin.

I have a booking in J in December this year from Auckland to Hong Kong. Looks like the CX A340 is being changed to an A350 so looking forward to trying it out.

I think this is the most relevant thread for my queries...

Please can any experienced CP fliers verify whether the airline is reliable and comfortable and which of the three versions of the 330-333 aircraft they use on the CNS-HKG and HKG-Delhi flights? What are the best economy seats on these flights?

Is it worth redeeming a business reward with Qantas on CP for the HKG-DEL return legs for 72k points and around $120 taxes?

The economy flight all up is a shade under $1100 return CNS-DEL, seems competitive.

Long haul aircraft will be used for both sectors (flat bed seats) - they would be the best option for the this trip and the redemption would be worthwhile given the cash value of a J ticket

Thanks very much for reply Yohy?!

Do you know if the long haul is this 33P or one of the others, I think the K or E? What's your view on Cathay, are they a good carrier? I have not flown with them for 15 years.

33K, the others are regional configurations -

My view is good of CX, I rate them above Qantas & in the league of Singapore Air. Their service in Business is a little different to Qantas in that the focus is on speed of service according to strict processes to maximise rest or work for pax. Having lived in Asia I prefer this no nonsense approach over the airs and graces of western carriers, you can still freely make special requests or chat with their FAs though and be assured they will be friendly and responsive (and if they aren't the ISM - in black will quickly resolve any concerns!).

Their transit experience and lounges in HKG are some of the best in the world so I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks again, that's valuable perspective. As my destination is Delhi I'm only transiting HK on the way over, but I will have approx 24 hours. With respect to the location of the airport etc, what area of HK would you recommend staying in to get out for a few hours upon arrival and perhaps the next day?

where to stay depends on your preferences...both Kowloon and the island are linked to the airport by the airport express... you'll be in either in 30-40 minutes. a 24 transit will give you around 19 hours of free time in Hong Kong allowing two hours to get from the airport, and three going back.

One thing you could do is a visit to Aberdeen and try a meal on one of the Jumbo restaurants, which are basically a ferry 100m or so from shore.

Have had stopvers in HKG many times over decades and we usually stay at the Regal Airport Hotel attached to the Int. terminal, hop into town on the fast train for a feed and fly out next day, its a fantastic city and we are lucky to have a few ex pat Aussie mates woo live there so as members the HK Yacht club and Foreign Correspondents club are favourites but they can be long lunches or dinners :).
