As a new CX flyer, I now have no idea on the best seats in Y on the CX tin, I have a 777 flight, and a330 out of ADL,
Any help would be appreciated

For the 330 and 77W the usual bulk heads and exit rows are best - free exit rows for oneworld sapphire and emerald members. Also the front Y mini cabin is a little quieter.

YOHY?!, you appear to be the CX resident expert, (without offending anyone)

i was looking into CC 's yesterday , interested in your thoughts for Points towards Cathay

free exit rows for oneworld ruby as well!

As a ow status holders, I'd always suggest snagging an exit row, or the front bulkheads. CX bulkhead seats are usually very generous with legroom.

Cx in y are pretty decent, I left j on a recent flight and had a business meeting sitting in y, didn't feel cramped at all

i'll take that compliment with gratitude - i had a few years in HK to get to know CX pretty intimately.

since coming back to Aus I have only been crediting CX flights to them for status with VA my main CC earning program - Amex cards typically have the best transfer rate towards CX in Aus, you may want to investigate the Amex threads to find others recommendations for the best earn rates available.

Is 39A any good on the 33G? Or should I stick to the exits?

depends if you are on the reconfig'd 33Gs or not - they took out a row of PE and reduced the leg room for row 39 - i believe PE went from 4 rows to 3, I would stick with row 59 on these birds

(quite sad really as row 39 was a pearler)

The reconfigured 33G has been designated as the 33K... although I'm not sure how absolutely reliable the designations are given the potential for substitution.

A query for CXsperts and MEL in particular - CX368 HKG-PVG showing A330-300 - any idea which version?

seems to be a bit of a lottery at the moment... regional business class has been operating on about 75% of the a330 services.

Can the seat maps be trusted much/at all in advance? I have a few CX flights in the next few weeks, they're showing as 33K, so hope they stay. Got 40A for a day flight (I don't like having to put everything in the OH locker) and 59A (but for an overnight flight I'll take the extra legroom).

Useful thread, thanks for the tips :)

Depends on the route. Long hauls are protected with long haul aircraft (including Australia, but you may get a substitution to the 33K with reduced premium economy). Some regional flights are protected with long hauls (for example Tokyo). Otherwise for regionals it can be a bit of a lottery - not least caused by massive delays into and out of china... aircraft intended for a flight might not be available so they'll substitute something else.

For economy - there's not going to be much difference - and 59 is an exit across all the a330s. First and business class (First not available, and/or business changing from bed to regional) are usually affected.

MEL do you know where to find seat maps for MEL-HKG-PVG May 5 134 / 364 and suggestions for best seats / seats to avoid pls?

I dunno the configuration of the 364. It seems to alternate between an A333 and 772. If it's a long haul 333 same seat suggestion as for the MEL-HKG. If it's regional (333 or 772) then pretty much anything - it's just a recliner (bulkhead on the 'A' side possibly for a bit more space)

For the long haul MEL-HKG - rows 16K or 17K are my preferred, followed by 18K (private) or 15K. The galley at the back of the cabin isn't used.

Specific seat maps are available on the manage booking function for CX. However the HKG-PVG can change even up until departure time. CX used to put mainly long haul aircraft on the PVG flights - A340s, 77Ws and 747s. Sadly most of those have gone now.

Tks MEL you are a star - booking made through AA so dunno if I can access booking via CX web site.

You will need the CX PNR - either from AA or by calling CX direct. Once you have that you have full functionality on the CX site. If you have a middle name or initial you sometimes have to play around with that on the CX site (try entering it with no space if you get stuck)

If CX 101 HKG-SYD is booked w' QF (as a reward), how would / can we do a seat request? Any thoughts on single PE seats? This is shown at the moment as a 777-300ER .

Whoops, apologies, she has 30K which looks a good bulkhead according to seatguru, but on the CX plan, has a toilet right in front?

Best place to request a seat is via the CX manage booking function. Or call CX.

30H - not sure where you see a WC in front. There is no WC at the rear of the J cabin, or indeed anywhere in the PE cabin.
