So despite NZ being in Star, they got CX to agree to a codeshare on LHR. Why were CX closed to a deal with QF, which surely would have given it far more customers than NZ?

Have you been living under a rock, CX and QF have never been cosy, given they once had a good thing going with AN, and the tie up was about NZ pulling from HKG to LHR, something QF are hardly in a position to help NZ with.

What tone, nothing implied in my question in that regard and should not be read that way. As I mentioned since the days CX partnered with AN, they have hardly been happy with Qantas, it's been repeated here many times and in the general press on numerous occasions, while the recent submission to the ACCC re JQ actually states how bad it's getting:

Interestingly CX even question why JQ and QF are interchanged in terms of the application, pointing out they are separate airlines!
