Has anyone one used the CX in-town check-in service available at Hong Kong or Kowloon MRT stations?

The CX website says it's available from T-24 to T-90mins.

Our flight departs at 2200 departure and I wonder if checking in after we leave the hotel would be easier than storing our bags and having to return to the hotel to collect them.

I'm also assuming that by collecting BPs early will allow us to maximise lounge time rather than waiting for airport checkin to open at T-3.

We're flying J if that makes any difference to where/when we can checkin.

Advice/experience appreciated.

With CX you can even check in in town the day before travel. You have access to the priority business lane, or the First lane if you are OWE. Although I've never had to wait in line at Hong Kong station.

We checked in our bags and collected our BPs at Kowloon at T -4 hours 6 weeks ago....you have to buy a train ticket 1st though ;)....there was no Q,. We then caught the train to Hkg, and went straight through security and made a beeline for the Pier. So I think it might be easier for you to checkin early for your flight and catch a later train to Hkg. You will still have to lug around your carry on though.

So if having to buy the train ticket first, does that mean you're committed to departing from Kowloon when heading to the airport? Is there an option to depart from any station on the network?

You may not be able to use that ticket from Kowloon to access departure from another station so you may need to purchase a ticket from where you are to Kowloon and then carry on from there.

Being true blue lounge hoppers Mrs Lime and self drop off about 4+ hours before flight into town rail point in HK but only for past 15 years or so :D and we do HKG about twice per year.

Check-in at HKG airport is 24 hours anyway IIRC - at least same day. So there's no waiting until T-3 hours anyway.

Downtown check-in is handy if you want to go shopping before catching the train. Limited if you are heading straight for the airport as you just roll your bags onto the train.

HKIA train tickets will only allow you to board at either Central or Kowloon, with different fares applicable from each.

Just a tip with the HK Airport Express, dont pay for the full price ticket. There are ways to get a discount, if you are travelling with 2 or more travellers, you all qualify for group discount (the more the cheaper per ticket) and for those leaving from Kowloon station- take a taxi instead of the shuttle bus (over 30 or 40HKD) get the receipt from the driver and you will get 50% discount off the normal price for the train ticket.

Hope it helps!

Please be aware, if you are flying to the USA you can not use the in-town check in due to new TSA restrictions.

The Article is headed:-In Town Check In At Hong Kong.

It states:-
In-town check-in is a great benefit because you can drop off your luggage and collect boarding passes " any time on the day of your flight".

Further down it states:-
You can check-in at Hong Kong or Kowloon stations "up to 90 minutes prior to the flight’s departure time".

Quite confusing to my way of thinking.

Anytime until 90 minutes before departure. So you have time to take the train to the airport, clear security and immigration. Considering boarding starts 45 minutes before departure I don't think that's too limiting. Some airlines also accept check-in the day before departure.

The wording of the first paragraph isnt perfect but....Prior to 90 mins flight departure is pretty good because it takes time to physically transport your bags from the airport express station to the flight...the bags pretty much gets processed onto one of the upcoming train.

I haven't a train system as efficient around the world yet....please share if there are my similar public system like this.

There has to be a cut off time to check-in otherwise neither you nor your luggage would be able to physically reach the airport, clear security - and for passengers, complete immigration - and get to your flight.

I know this thread is relates to "CX in-town check-in service available at Hong Kong or Kowloon MRT stations" but does anyone have first-hand experience whether the same service is provided for RJ.
I know what the Hong Kong MTR website says (MTR > In-Town Check-In Counters Information), the RJ website is non-specific and phone calls to RJ have been received with mixed levels of confusion.

I'll be going through in-town checkin tomorrow. I can have a look. The thing to remember is that some of the desks handle flights from many airlines so there won't be a dedicated RJ desk. So my guess is that if it's mentioned on the MTR website then it is available.

Much appreciated defurax. Just confirmed there is a RJ flight departing tomorrow (Tuesday) night.

Just whilst we are on this topic - to get discounted MTR Airport Express tickets, download the KLook App and buy it there - much cheaper than buying over the counter and also beats the group travel prices.
Ticket now comes in a QR code which you can use.

A huge thanks defurax.
Now knowing this, here's my dilemma:
I arrive into HKG on CX long haul at 6.30am. But my RJ flight leaves at 9.30pm, same day, with check-in opening 3 hours before. I plan to spend the day in Hong Kong.
Any thoughts on whether it would be best to store my luggage at HKG airport or take it into Hong Kong for an in-town check in?
