CX fleet renewal

CX have announced that they intend buying the A350XWB and more 777's

Cathay to purchase 30 A350s and six 777s
Its an interesting combination given both types offer similar capacity and range. I expect Boeing salesman would have targeted CX as a potential 747-8I customer.

So the announcement shows where CX sees their growth and its not in the very large capacity market that looks to be dominated by SQ and EK for some time to come.

Overall it seems a logical step.

They have not ruled out larger aircraft to replace their 744 fleet and it will be interesting to see what direction they take - either A380, 748I or retire the 744 and expand the A350/777 fleet further. But they have a little while to wait for that decision and may well be wanting to learn from the A350 experience first.

Given the dislike by some of the CX new J seat (which personally i really like) I wonder if they will take the opportunity to refresh the J cabin?

There is already a thread about the J cabin refresh, though I’m too lazy to look it out for you right now. Needless to say though, one will be happening.

IIRC there has been an announcement that they will be doing such a refresh. The comment was something to the effect that you will be able to look out a window without either straining your neck or using a mirror!

Thanks to both - I hadnt seen that as I havent been as diligent checking AFF recently...
